LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Hidi Hose Company No. 4 upon
the occasion of celebrating its 100th Anniversary
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor fire departments and their members who have exhibited great dedi-
cation, courage and selflessness in protecting their neighbors from fire
and other disasters in this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout
the Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the ardu-
ous field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great State's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the Hidi Hose Company No. 4 upon the occasion of celebrating its
100th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel not
only provide the critical service of fire protection and medical care,
but also engage in other activities of great benefit and importance to
the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, In 1916, a group of men, in the true spirit of neighbors
helping neighbors, recognized that Hidi and the surrounding area was
lacking in protection from fires and other disasters; and
WHEREAS, From 1916 to 1921, their equipment consisted of 1,000 feet of
hose on a cart with the necessary hand tools; and
WHEREAS, Today, the Hidi Hose Company No. 4 is housed in the hall that
the members built in 1926, and their equipment is in a 2004 American La
France Metropolitan, with 1,000 gallons of water and a 1500 GPM pump;
and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of President John Walgus, the
members of the Hidi Hose Company No. 4 have raised sufficient funds for
a historical marker which will include the words, "Therefore we hereby
dedicate this memorial to those fearless and intrepid firefighters of
Hidi Hose Company No. 4, who have paved the way for future generations
of volunteer firefighters everywhere; Erected in their memory July
2016"; and
WHEREAS, Additionally, the members of the Hidi Hose Company No. 4
honors their Godfather, Julius J. Szymanski, as he celebrates 70 dedi-
cated years of membership; this is an historic accomplishment and a true
example of leadership and service to the community; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help
others, and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with
family and friends to carry out the vital mission of volunteer fire
departments; and
WHEREAS, Observing that special recognition should be given to those
who work so assiduously for the betterment of their communities, and
that they should be acknowledged publicly for their heroic good works as
volunteer firefighters in this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Hidi Hose Company No. 4 upon the occasion of celebrat-
ing its 100th Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Walgus, President, Hidi Hose Company No. 4.
