LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring MaryEllen Tedesco upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of a Civilian Unit Recognition Award by the
New York State Police on May 26, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the long-
standing efforts of those agencies and individuals in the State of New
York who diligently contribute to the efficient operation of our crimi-
nal justice system; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor MaryEllen
Tedesco upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of a Civilian
Unit Recognition Award by the New York State Police, to be celebrated at
its 40th Annual Superintendent's Commendation and Awards Day Ceremony on
Thursday, May 26, 2016, at the University at Albany Performing Arts
Center, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, MaryEllen Tedesco was chosen to receive this auspicious award
in recognition of her outstanding service to law enforcement and the
people of New York State; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman has proudly served as a member of the New
York State Police since July 29, 1982; she is currently assigned to
Division Headquarters, Office of Human Resources Civilian Hiring Unit,
and resides in Rensselaer, New York; and
WHEREAS, As Assistant Director of Personnel, MaryEllen Tedesco is part
of the Civilian Hiring Unit which is responsible for the execution of
hiring, processing, testing, promotional policies and the administration
of guaranteed benefits for non-sworn employees; in 2015, the team hired
72 new employees statewide; and
WHEREAS, In October of 2014, more than 1,500 candidates participated
in a statewide open-competitive examination for Communications Special-
ist; the examination was also given as a promotional examination for
current eligible employees and resulting in the hiring of 13 new Commu-
nications Specialists in 2015; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the Communications Specialist exam, in 2015,
promotional exams were held for the positions of Calculations Clerk 2,
Clerk 2, and Keyboard Specialist; the results of those exams led to 207
employees being placed on eligibility lists; and
WHEREAS, The Civilian Hiring Unit has diligently worked with the
Department of Civil Service instituting a title structure change
throughout the State of New York, which impacted clerical and keyboard-
ing staff, and continues to work on the establishment of new positions
and units, some of which include the Campus Sexual Assault Unit, Commer-
cial Casino Detail and an addition to Troop NYC; and
WHEREAS, The tradition of noble public service and leadership embodied
by MaryEllen Tedesco is of such magnitude as to be worthy of special,
statewide recognition; this meritorious woman stands as an integral part
of the criminal justice system, and will continue to provide critical
and vital service to the residents of our communities; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor MaryEllen Tedesco upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of a Civilian Unit Recognition Award by the New York State Police on
May 26, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to MaryEllen Tedesco.
