LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gideon Gadson upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Senior Scholar Humanities Award by the
Orange-Ulster BOCES on April 28, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, to honor the achievements of its young
citizens and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and accomplishments
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Gideon Gadson
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Senior Scholar
Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES which was celebrated at its
Third Annual Awards Breakfast, on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Kuhl's
Highland House, Middletown, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award recognizes outstanding high school
students for their accomplishments and/or performances in the arts,
including fine arts, theater, and music; and
WHEREAS, Gideon Gadson has distinguished himself as a young man of
superlative ability, talent, and maturity, establishing standards of
excellence and achievement, purposefulness of life, and responsibility
rarely achieved in youthful years; and
WHEREAS, Gideon Gadson, a Senior at Port Jervis Senior High School,
Port Jervis, New York, has plans to attend the Marion Military Institute
in Alabama, after graduation; and
WHEREAS, A fixture on the stage for his entire high school career,
Gideon Gadson played numerous roles in various school productions
including "Little Shop of Horrors," "Footloose," "Arsenic and Old Lace,"
and "Peter Pan"; and
WHEREAS, Gideon Gadson's theatrical experience is not limited to
acting, he also serves as the student lighting technician and was the
lighting director for both the middle school and elementary theater
productions this year; and
WHEREAS, A multi-talented musician, Gideon Gadson is an integral
member of the Concert Band, Concert Choir, Symphonic Band, Chamber Choir
and A Capella Choir; in addition, he also performed and was a soloist at
composer, Evan Mack's concert in Bethel Woods, New York; and
WHEREAS, A true Renaissance Man, Gideon Gadson is a member of the Port
Jervis High School Football Team and enjoys playing basketball and read-
ing a good book during his free time; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for his classmates, Gideon Gadson
has brought honor to his family, school, and community; and
WHEREAS, Gideon Gadson may stand with pride in his achievements, expe-
riencing the satisfaction of his labors and the joy of his accomplish-
ments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as he continues
his education; and
WHEREAS, Gideon Gadson represents the potential inherent in our most
precious resource, our youth; this Legislative Body is pleased to honor
this young man, recognizing his achievements and the promise of his
future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gideon Gadson upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Senior Scholar Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES, and to
wish him well in his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gideon Gadson.
