LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Elizabeth Kilfoil upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Adult Presidential Gold Service
Award by the Merrick Association of Girl Scouts on June 1, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention to
the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of New
York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the community;
and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Elizabeth
Kilfoil upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Adult
Presidential Gold Service Award by the Merrick Association of Girl
Scouts, to be celebrated at an Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, June 1,
2016, at the Merrick Golf Course, Merrick, New York; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Kilfoil has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, For the past few years, Elizabeth Kilfoil has donated 521
hours of service to Merrick Association of Girl Scouts Troop 2274; as an
assistant, she has attended every meeting and has enjoyed helping the
troop leaders; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her work with the Girl Scouts, Elizabeth
Kilfoil is a member of various service groups and local clubs such as
St. Christopher's School in Baldwin, New York, and Sacred Heart Academy
in Hempstead; and
WHEREAS, At St. Christopher's School, Elizabeth Kilfoil creates
baskets each year for the Annual Chinese Auction, works at the Bloomin'
Onion booth at the school's feast and the Harvest Craft and Gift Fair,
sells items and sets up tables at the Christmas Boutique, and serves
food and decorates for the Father Daughter Dance, as well as coaches the
seventh grade CYO Volleyball Team; and
WHEREAS, At Sacred Heart Academy Elizabeth Kilfoil chaperones prac-
tices for Red and Gold, and prepares baskets for the Mother Daughter
Dance each year; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Kilfoil is also a vital member of the Baldwin
Lion's Club where she collects food, socks and underwear for men and
women living in homeless shelters, makes and delivers holiday cards for
patients at Mercy Hospital, organizes the Leo's fundraisers, and helps
coordinate vision screenings for children below the age of six at the
Easter Eggstravaganza in Baldwin Park; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Elizabeth Kilfoil has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and serv-
ing can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism promotes family and community solidarity; most
importantly, people who volunteer their time in civic and charitable
endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, In the faithful performance of her duties and volunteer
efforts, Elizabeth Kilfoil's ongoing endeavors have significantly
contributed to bettering the quality of life in her community; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Elizabeth Kilfoil upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of the Adult Presidential Gold Service Award by the Merrick Associ-
ation of Girl Scouts on June 1, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Elizabeth Kilfoil.
