LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Devina Anderson upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Adult Presidential Gold Service Award by
the Merrick Association of Girl Scouts on June 1, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention to
the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of New
York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the community;
and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Devina Ander-
son upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Adult Pres-
idential Gold Service Award by the Merrick Association of Girl Scouts,
to be celebrated at an Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at
the Merrick Golf Course, Merrick, New York; and
WHEREAS, Devina Anderson has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the past few years, Devina Anderson has donated
518 hours of service to Merrick Association of Girl Scouts Troop 2274;
as co-Leader of the Troop, she has enjoyed helping children reach their
full potential by guiding them on their journey to successful futures;
and
WHEREAS, In addition to her work with the Girl Scouts, Devina Anderson
spends many hours doing voluntary work at the local church, schools and
various charitable organizations, supporting local fundraisers to help
fund research to find cures for deadly diseases or to simply replenish
local food pantries; this remarkable woman is an active supporter of the
United Nations Nothing but Nets Campaign to end deaths caused by mala-
ria, a preventable disease; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated humanitarian activist, Devina Anderson serves as
a Community Ambassador for the Half the Sky Movement and strives to
empower women and girls globally; she is also an active participant with
Amnesty International's letter writing campaign to help free political
prisoners; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Devina Anderson has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and serv-
ing can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism promotes family and community solidarity; most
importantly, people who volunteer their time in civic and charitable
endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, In the faithful performance of her duties and volunteer
efforts, Devina Anderson's ongoing endeavors have significantly contrib-
uted to bettering the quality of life in her community; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Devina Anderson upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Adult Presidential Gold Service Award by the Merrick Association
of Girl Scouts on June 1, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Devina Anderson.
