LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Susan Thomas upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Adult Presidential Bronze Service Award
by the Merrick Association of Girl Scouts

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention to
the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of New
York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the community;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Susan Thomas upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Adult Presidential Bronze Service Award by the Merrick Association of
Girl Scouts, to be celebrated at an Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, June
1, 2016, at the Merrick Golf Course, Merrick, New York; and
WHEREAS, Susan Thomas has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the past few years, Susan Thomas has donated 233
hours of service to Merrick Association of Girl Scouts Troop 2358; as
mixed adult volunteer of the Troop, she has enjoyed helping children
reach their full potential by guiding them on their journey to success-
ful futures; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her work with the Girl Scouts, Susan Thomas
spends many hours doing voluntary work at the New York City Rescue
Mission, Food Drive, and teaching Sunday school at the local church; she
also collects food for Island Harvest and the Bethpage Turkey Drive; and
WHEREAS, Susan Thomas also gives of her time and energy to such organ-
izations as Bowling for Brain Injury and Operation Christmas Child; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Susan Thomas has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and serv-
ing can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism promotes family and community solidarity; most
importantly, people who volunteer their time in civic and charitable
endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, In the faithful performance of her duties and volunteer
efforts, Susan Thomas' ongoing endeavors have significantly contributed
to bettering the quality of life in her community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Susan Thomas upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Adult Presidential Bronze Service Award by the Merrick Association
of Girl Scouts; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Susan Thomas.
