LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending James W. Taylor, Jr. upon the occasion
of his designation for special recognition by Mount Saint Mary College
on June 6, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
James W. Taylor, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by Mount Saint Mary College, to be celebrated at its 38th
Annual Invitational Golf Tournament and 5th Annual Tennis Tournament on
Monday, June 6, 2016, at The Powelton Club, Newburgh, New York; and
WHEREAS, James W. Taylor, Jr. has been selected as this year's Golf
Honoree in recognition of his steadfast and unwavering commitment to
Mount Saint Mary College and the community-at-large; and
WHEREAS, A native of Newburgh, New York, James (Jim) W. Taylor, Jr.
founded Taylor Biomass Energy, LLC in 2005, as part of his family's
business commitment to waste reduction, recycling and reuse; he also
built the first of these businesses, Taylor Tree, Inc., into one of the
Hudson Valley's largest land clearing and tree service companies; and
WHEREAS, Under Jim W. Taylor, Jr.'s luminous leadership, Taylor-Mont-
gomery, LLC, formerly known as Taylor Recycling Facility, LLC, disposes
wood from other businesses and is a leading recycler of construction and
demolition debris; and
WHEREAS, Taylor-Montgomery, LLC's reputation grew exponentially after
the firm worked around the clock for nine months at the Fresh Kills
Landfill sorting debris from the World Trade Center disaster on Septem-
ber 11, 2001; the company received a commendation from the Army Corps of
Engineers' lead contractor for its tremendous contribution to getting
the project completed in less time than expected and under budget, and
with the highest degree of performance; and
WHEREAS, After his retirement, Jim W. Taylor, Jr. has continued to
serve as Chairman to Taylor-Montgomery, LLC; today, the family-run busi-
ness is run by his three children who continue their father's mantra of
"we need to stop wasting our waste; waste is a resource and has value.
We can no longer continue to build these great big mountains of debris;
above and below the ground (landfills); that are never, ever, ever going
to go away in our kids', kids', kids time"; and
WHEREAS, As Chairman, Jim W. Taylor, Jr. is responsible for leading
the Taylor team in designing, building and operating the world's first
commercial size biomass gasification plant using the organic fraction of
municipal solid waste and construction and demolition debris as the
feedstock to produce renewable electricity; Taylor Biomass Energy, LLC
owns the patented technology, the world's first of which will be
constructed in Montgomery, New York; and
WHEREAS, Jim W. Taylor, Jr. travels the world as an expert in his
field giving numerous speeches and debates from leadership to recycling
for many different types of organizations; and
WHEREAS, Jim W. Taylor, Jr. has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Jim W. Taylor, Jr. has lead and supported numerous local
community groups including The Viking Aquatic Club, churches, schools,
Veteran of Foreign War Clubs, Little Leagues, volunteer ambulance corps,
and fire departments; in addition, Taylor-Montgomery, LLC donated
significant funds for the Orange County World Trade Center Remembrance
Walkway and Garden Memorial located at The Ottaway Arboretum in Orange
County's Thomas Bull Memorial Park; and
WHEREAS, A firm believer in giving back to the community which has
given him so much, Jim W. Taylor, Jr. has served on the boards of the
Construction Materials Recycling Association, Orange County Chamber of
Commerce, Orange County Partnership, St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital,
Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporations, Hudson Valley Regional
Economic Development Council, City of Newburgh Planning Board, and New
York State Pesticides User Council, as well as the New York State Arbor-
ist Association; and
WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his communi-
ty, Jim W. Taylor, Jr. has been the recipient of numerous awards and
accolades such as: Honorary degree of Doctor of Laws from Mount Saint
Mary College; the 2004 Business of the Year Award by the Orange County
Chamber of Commerce; the Recycling, Quality of Life and Spirit of Inno-
vation Award by the Orange County Partnership; and the Vision of Hope
Award by the Occupations Foundation at Occupations, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, James W. Taylor, Jr. has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Eileen, and their
three children, James W. III, Hans E., and Tonyalynn Taylor, all of whom
feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which James W. Taylor, Jr. has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend James W. Taylor, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by Mount Saint Mary College on June 6, 2016; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to James W. Taylor, Jr.
