LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gabrielle Rodriguez upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the 2016 Youth of the Year Award by the
Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Gabrielle Rodriguez upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2016 Youth of the Year Award by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany;
and
WHEREAS, The Boys & Girls Club's highest honor, the Youth of the Year
Award, recognizes exceptional young men and women for their outstanding
contributions to the community, as well as their perseverance in over-
coming personal challenges and obstacles; these honorees are shining
examples and living proof that great futures start at Boys & Girls
Clubs; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Boys & Girls Club of Albany for 11 years,
Gabrielle Rodriguez has participated in the club's College Corner
Program, Jr. Staff Program and Tutoring Program which has enabled her to
utilize college access opportunities, access homework assistance and
receive job readiness training; and
WHEREAS, Gabrielle Rodriguez has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, During her time as a teen member, Gabrielle Rodriguez has
spent numerous afternoons volunteering her time to mentor and assist
younger members with homework help and school projects; she has also
taken an active role in the Boys and Girl Club's annual Global Youth
Service Day and volunteers at various community organizations throughout
the City of Albany; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding scholar, Gabrielle Rodriguez is an AP Honor
Student and has achieved high marks in all of her subject areas while
receiving numerous accolades for her academic success in the classroom;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, this esteemed young woman continually makes the
honor roll each quarter and has also received an award for the Black
History Creative Expression Contest; and
WHEREAS, Committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, Gabrielle
Rodriguez has participated in soccer and little league baseball since
the age of five, and has played on her school's modified soccer and
softball teams; she also enjoys cooking healthy meals and taking long
walks and bike rides with her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
Boys & Girls Club member now stands honorably, with just pride in her
accomplishments and in eager anticipation of future challenges, under-
standing and appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by her
teachers, coaches and loved ones; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor the youth
of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gabrielle Rodriguez upon the occasion of her designation as recip-
ient of the 2016 Youth of the Year Award by the Boys & Girls Clubs of
Albany; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gabrielle Rodriguez.
