LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Safe Homes
of Orange County on October 21, 2016
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals and organizations it wishes to recognize for
their valued contributions to the success and progress of society and
publicly acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic
humanity among us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 30th
Anniversary of Safe Homes of Orange County, to be celebrated at its
Celebration of Hope Gala on Friday, October 21, 2016, at Anthony's Pier
9, New Windsor, New York; and
WHEREAS, Safe Homes of Orange County is a private, not-for-profit
agency serving as the county's primary agency dedicated to providing
confidential assistance directly to survivors of domestic violence,
teen-dating violence, and human trafficking; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1986, Safe Homes of Orange County's mission is
to work toward the elimination of intimate partner violence and traf-
ficking by providing comprehensive support services to victims and their
children, and by increasing public awareness about these issues and
encouraging accountability for perpetrators; and
WHEREAS, Creating a safe space for those who have been devastated by
violence and abuse, Safe Homes of Orange County is a space where victims
and their families can reclaim and rebuild their lives; and
WHEREAS, Safe Homes of Orange County provides full spectrum emergency,
non-emergency, and wrap-around services for individuals and families
affected by domestic violence, teen-dating violence, and human traffick-
ing; and
WHEREAS, This vital organization serves with compassion and dignity,
educating and empowering all individuals and families, regardless of
race, sexual orientation, socio-economic or religious backgrounds,
affected by violence in their homes or relationships; and
WHEREAS, Through its legal assistance services, Safe Homes of Orange
County helps to protect survivors and hold abusers accountable for their
violent acts; in addition, its social services liaison program helps to
ensure survivors have access to state and federal resources they so
desperately need; and
WHEREAS, Safe Homes of Orange County also advocates for the develop-
ment and implementation of victim-sensitive laws, policies, and proce-
dures across all systems that impact the safety and recovery of survi-
vors of domestic violence; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 30 year history, Safe Homes of Orange
County has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and communi-
ties which it serves; and
WHEREAS, The success of Safe Homes of Orange County is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its leadership and staff, whose involve-
ment is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment,
an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves;
and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Safe Homes of Orange
County; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Safe Homes of Orange County on Octo-
ber 21, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Safe Homes of Orange County.
