LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jack Zemel upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Outstanding Educator of the Year Award
by the Suffolk Association for Continuing and Community Education on
June 9, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in the State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Jack
Zemel upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Outstand-
ing Educator of the Year Award by the Suffolk Association for Continuing
and Community Education, to be celebrated at its Annual Awards Dinner on
Thursday, June 9, 2016, at The Watermill Restaurant, Smithtown, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The Suffolk Association for Continuing Community Education
(SACCE) was founded to promote lifelong learning opportunities for
adults within Suffolk County and beyond the county's borders; its
purpose is to advance adult education as a vital factor in adult growth,
development and fulfillment; and
WHEREAS, Through the sharing of resources and ideas with colleagues in
the Nassau Association, and under the umbrella of the New York State
Association, SACCE strives to increase the recognition of and respect
for continuing community education and its professionals; in addition,
it is the goal of the organization to exercise leadership in the advoca-
cy of adult community and continuing education at the local, state and
national levels; and
WHEREAS, Jack Zemel earned his Bachelor's degree in Business and Tech-
nology in Las Vegas; while a student, he enjoyed learning about Nevada's
culture and history and hitting the links; and
WHEREAS, After graduating, Jack Zemel started working at the family
business, Mr. Barbeque, where he honed his culinary skills and practical
business experience; and
WHEREAS, In 1998, Jack Zemel accepted a position at Western Suffolk
BOCES, where he competently covered assignments in its Literacy
Programs, and worked with other BOCES in their technology programs; and
WHEREAS, A compassionate and patient teacher, Jack Zemel worked with
the United Cerebral Palsy population at Dix Hills, teaching them about
technology and various computer applications; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated instructor who inspires his students in their
education endeavors and life goals, Jack Zemel then went on to teach
English and life skills at the United Cerebral Palsy Facility; in addi-
tion, he taught CSEA employees basic Word and Excel skills necessary for
success in today's workforce; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Jack Zemel has been a dedicated and
hardworking educator, providing a learning environment where students
gather to not only be educated in literacy, community activities and job
skills, but also to become part of a caring and nurturing family; and
WHEREAS, When he is not working, Jack Zemel loves spending time with
his family as well as cooking, baking and relaxing at the beach; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Jack Zemel provide a tremendous service to the
future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of people in their
educational journeys and ensuring their success in their future years;
and
WHEREAS, Jack Zemel has clearly had an enduring impact on the students
of Eastern Suffolk BOCES and the community at large, and accordingly

merits recognition and applause for many impressive years of dedication
to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
education by providing their skills and talents to our schools; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jack Zemel upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Outstanding Educator of the Year Award by the Suffolk Association
for Continuing and Community Education on June 9, 2016; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jack Zemel.
