LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Richard Greenblatt, Esq. upon the occa-
sion of his designation as recipient of the Rose Rosen Award by the
Women's Bar Association of Orange and Sullivan counties on June 16, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those distinguished citizens who devote their time and ener-
gies to the service of their community and profession, participating in
civic affairs and enhancing the character and quality of life for all
citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Richard Greenblatt, Esq. upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the Rose Rosen Award by the Women's Bar Association of Orange and
Sullivan counties, to be celebrated at its Annual Dinner and Board
Installation on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at The Eagle's Nest in Bloom-
ingburg, New York; and
WHEREAS, After graduating cum laude from Brooklyn Law School in 1978,
Richard Greenblatt joined his father's firm, Greenblatt and Axelrod,
where he concentrated in criminal defense and medical malpractice cases;
as the firm grew, he took over management of the firm and expanded his
practice into the fields of divorce and family law; this led to his
recognition that in most cases, mediation is a more appropriate method
of conflict resolution; and
WHEREAS, For the past decade, as senior trial counsel to Rutberg Basso
Personal Injury Law, Richard Greenblatt concentrated primarily in
personal injury cases, expanding his advocacy skills in research and
writing along with mastering trial techniques; in addition to many
significant settlements and jury verdicts, he has successfully argued
appeals before the intermediate appellate courts and the Court of
Appeals; and
WHEREAS, Although Richard Greenblatt has successfully tried many cases
over the past 35 years, he is well aware that the vast majority of cases
settle; his vast experience in court has taught him that better
solutions are available if the parties, and if they choose, their coun-
sel, are willing to work together to understand what each side needs to
bring an end to the dispute; and
WHEREAS, Richard Greenblatt completed basic mediation training in
1997, and collaborative negotiation training in 2001; he was among the
first attorneys in New York to establish a collaborative negotiations
group, helping litigants resolve disputes without court intervention;
and
WHEREAS, Through the years, Richard Greenblatt has continued to
improve his skills, recently completing an intensive mediation training
sponsored by the Center for Understanding in Conflict and the Center for
Mediation in Law and a program in Neuroliteracy for Lawyers sponsored by
the New York State Bar Association's Dispute Resolution Section; and
WHEREAS, Although Richard Greenblatt has trained and practiced in many
area of dispute resolution, he now concentrates his practice on resol-
ution of personal injury matters; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the legal community, Richard Greenblatt held
several leadership positions in various organizations including Presi-
dent of the Orange County Bar Association, President of the Legal Aid
Society of Orange County, and both Secretary and Treasurer of the Dutch-
ess County Bar Association; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Richard Greenblatt is a member of the New York
State Bar Association (NYSBA), the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA),
the Dutchess County Bar Association (DCBA), the Women's Bar Association
of the State of New York (WBASNY), and the Hudson Valley Collaborative
Divorce and Dispute Resolution Association (HVCDDRA), as well as the
International Association of Collaborative Professionals (IACP); and
WHEREAS, Today, Richard Greenblatt continues to serve his profession
and the public as a member of the Grievance Committee for the 9th Judi-
cial District, the panel which oversees the ethical conduct of attorneys
in five counties in the Hudson Valley; and
WHEREAS, Richard Greenblatt also chairs a judicial screening committee
which interviews and rates judicial candidates for positions on the
Supreme Court and serves on a statewide panel which interviews and rates
candidates for the New York Court of Appeals; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his professional and communi-
ty service, a period of constructive involvement, Richard Greenblatt has
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Richard Greenblatt has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their profession and community,
and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence, certainly
have earned the recognition and applause of all citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Richard Greenblatt, Esq. upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Rose Rosen Award by the Women's Bar Association of
Orange and Sullivan counties; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Richard Greenblatt.
