LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Florence L. Sherman upon the occa-
sion of celebrating her 100th Birthday
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate and
recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great Empire
State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Florence L. Sherman upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th
Birthday; and
WHEREAS, Florence L. Sherman was born in Olean, New York on May 23,
1916, to Polish immigrants, Michael and Anna Pachla; she attended School
4 in East Olean; and
WHEREAS, Together, Florence L. Sherman and her late husband, Robert
Sherman, Sr. had three children, Judith Williar, Robert S. Sherman, Jr.,
and Jeanne Jolley; today, Florence is the loving grandmother of nine
grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Robert, Jill, Christine, David,
Summer, Tracy, and Stephen and 14 great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Florence L. Sherman was a homemaker until her children were
in high school; she then worked at the Olean Tile Company, Siegel's
Women's Store, and Loeber's Sales until 1979, when she and her husband
retired and moved to New Port Richey, Florida; and
WHEREAS, Florence L. Sherman's commitment to her faith and community
are a testament to her character and outstanding legacy; she served as
choir director to over 50 youth at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church;
Florence and Robert, Sr. were in charge of St. Stephen's Youth Fellow-
ship Group, engaging young parishioners in many enjoyable activities;
and
WHEREAS, In Olean, Florence L. Sherman was a member of Amaranth, The
JollyTime Club, and a pinochle card club comprised of her friends; she
thoroughly enjoyed decorating her home and entertaining company with
delectable desserts; and
WHEREAS, In Florida, Florence L. Sherman loved the sunshine, and spent
countless hours working in her flower gardens; she also enjoyed reading
a good book, the daily newspaper, as well as weekly magazines; her home
was the spring break destination for her friends and relatives for many
years, bringing her great joy and memories to last a lifetime; and
WHEREAS, Florence L. Sherman returned to Olean in 2004, and she pres-
ently resides at The Pines Healthcare and Rehab Center; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and honor the lives of beloved citizens who have reached a remark-
able age and who have witnessed and celebrated the outstanding inno-
vations, cultural developments, and awesome achievements of this country
during the last century; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Florence L. Sherman upon the occasion of celebrating her
100th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Florence L. Sherman.
