LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Amelia Krouse upon the occasion of
her designation as a recipient of the Girl Scout Gold Award
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
young people within the State of New York who, by achieving outstanding
success in Girl Scouts, have inspired and brought great pride to their
community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Amelia Krouse upon the occasion of her designation as a recipient
of the Girl Scout Gold Award; Amelia was honored at a celebration held
during the 7th Annual Meeting of Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways on
Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the Carnegie Conference Center in Driver's
Village in Cicero, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Girl Scouts of America, and its members, are dedicated to
the development of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation;
and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting cultivates in our Nation's youth the values of
sisterhood and the importance of working with others; Girl Scout activ-
ities develop leadership, stimulate both mind and body, instill pride,
encourage community service, and strengthen a commitment to overall
excellence; and
WHEREAS, Since 1980, the Girl Scout Gold Award has recognized girls
who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through remarkable projects in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Amelia Krouse, of Manlius, New York, is a member of Girl
Scout Troop 10071; and
WHEREAS, Through her diligence and rigorous efforts, Amelia Krouse has
earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest and most prestigious honor
a Girl Scout can earn, after spending a minimum of 80 hours working on a
sustainable project that will impact her community for years to come;
and
WHEREAS, In order to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award, Amelia Krouse
completed a series of requirements that included a skills building proc-
ess, exploration of her community, and an action project which Amelia
planned, developed and executed; and
WHEREAS, Amelia Krouse's Gold Award project, titled "Mill Run Park
Project," was completed in 82 hours over a period of 10 consecutive
months; and
WHEREAS, For this important project, Amelia Krouse completed several
tasks at Mill Run Park in Manlius, in order to allow visitors to more
easily navigate the park's trails; she updated and redesigned the park
map and also created 90 trail markers that were placed throughout the
park; and
WHEREAS, Amelia Krouse additionally created a brochure that includes a
history of the park, a map, useful emergency phone numbers, and tips on
how to avoid ticks and how to avoid harmful plants like poison ivy; and
WHEREAS, In order to complete her project, Amelia Krouse worked close-
ly with the Village of Manlius Parks and Recreation Department, Council,
and Trustees; she also organized and led a team of her peers to help her
with the work; and
WHEREAS, Amelia Krouse's Gold Award project, which built upon her
interests in parks and the outdoors, has provided an important service
to the community, proved to be of lasting benefit, and it is worthy of
the Girl Scout Gold Award; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young woman has lived up to the Girl Scout-
ing ideals and has attained all of the necessary achievements; and
WHEREAS, Amelia Krouse is a credit to her family, her community, and
to this great Empire State, and no doubt, her future will be filled with
accomplishments of equal importance; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize and commend Amelia Krouse upon the occasion of her designation
as a recipient of the Girl Scout Gold Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Amelia Krouse.
