LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gita and Irving Freed upon the occasion
of their designation for special recognition by Congregation Beth Tikvah
on June 5, 2016
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Gita and Irving Freed have given not only of their time and
energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Gita and
Irving Freed upon the occasion of their designation for special recogni-
tion by Congregation Beth Tikvah, to be celebrated at its Annual Journal
Dinner on Sunday, June 5, 2016, in Wantagh, New York; and
WHEREAS, Gita and Irving Freed have been called upon to contribute
their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Gita Freed has been a member of Congregation Beth Tikvah,
formerly known as the Wantagh Jewish Center, for more than three
decades; a member of its largest Adult Bat Mitzvah group, she is an
active member of Sisterhood and has received the Claire Rogoff Award and
Woman of Achievement Award from Sisterhood; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman is a regular shul goer and has read many
Haftorahs for various Shabbatot and Yom Tovim, most notably first day
Rosh Hashanah, as well as the Torah and Haftorah readings for Simchat
Torah; she is also a regular for leading Friday night services; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to the synagogue, Gita Freed has served on
numerous committees some of which include, the Rabbinical Search Commit-
tee; the "Celebrate Israel" fundraiser, Ritual Committee, Religious
Activities subcommittee for the Consolidation Committee, the new High
Holiday Prayer book committee, and Ner Tamid subcommittee for the sanc-
tuary renovation; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Gita Freed is past Religious Activities Vice
President for both Sisterhood and congregation, and has been co-editor
of the shul's award winning newsletter, The BETH TIKVAH TIMES, with
Irving for 11 years and counting; and
WHEREAS, Irving Freed has also been a member of this synagogue for
more than 30 years; he has served as a past president and Board Member
of Men's Club where he was bestowed with the Henry Krausman Man Of The
Year Award and is in charge of the club's bowling league; and
WHEREAS, A regular shul goer, Irving Freed will daven, act as lay
leader, and read Haftorahs on Shabbat and holidays throughout the year;
he also gives out Shabbat honors and helps keep the service moving
smoothly; and
WHEREAS, Irving Freed is currently co-president of Chavurah, co-chair-
man of the Kol Nidre Appeal Committee and co-chairman of the High Holi-
day Honors Committee; he is also a member of the Ritual Committee, Mach-
zor Committee, and Israel Bond Committee; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he has worked on the Memorial Plaques for the
new sanctuary and has been on numerous Synagogue Nominating Committees;
and
WHEREAS, The recipients of numerous awards and accolades, Gita and
Irving Freed have been UJA honorees, and have both received the Presi-
dent's Award; and
WHEREAS, Gita and Irving Freed have been married for 42 years; they
are the proud parents of two sons, Jeremy (Rachel) and Benjamin (Robin),
and have two beautiful grandchildren, Lucas and Ellie; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Gita and Irving Freed have stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Gita and Irving Freed have displayed
throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gita and Irving Freed upon the occasion of their designation for
special recognition by Congregation Beth Tikvah on June 5, 2016; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gita and Irving Freed.
