LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of The
Medical Society of Bay Ridge on June 16, 2016

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
commend and recognize those organizations within the medical community
for their extraordinary and sustained contributions to the progress of
medicine and the improvement of life; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of The Medical Society of Bay Ridge to be
celebrated at its Presidents Dinner on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at the
Brooklyn Winery, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, For 100 years, The Medical Society of Bay Ridge has been
committed to providing exceptional medical care to its community; and
WHEREAS, In 1913, a small group of Bay Ridge, New York, doctors met
each month at the Nurses Home of the Bay Ridge Hospital to discuss their
important cases, read medical papers on new treatments and other medical
subjects, and improve medical standards as well as foster fellowship
amongst medical professionals; and
WHEREAS, Two years later, an invitation was sent to 25 prominent
physicians in the Bay Ridge area asking them to join in the formation of
a medical society; in November of 1915, the first organizational meeting
was held in the Ridge Club; at this time the first corporate body of the
society was formalized, and John P. McQuillin was elected as its first
President; and
WHEREAS, In 1923, The Medical Society of Bay Ridge was incorporated
and the founding doctors freely gave of their time, energy and experi-
ence to this vital organization; and
WHEREAS, Today, The Medical Society of Bay Ridge continues the tradi-
tion of its forefathers, offering free medical services to its community
at various neighborhood, religious and sports activities; and
WHEREAS, The exceptional doctors of The Medical Society of Bay Ridge
have continually demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelli-
gence and diligent leadership in their unwavering service to their
community and medical profession; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of The Medical Society of Bay Ridge on
June 16, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Calogero Gambino, MD, President, The Medical Society of Bay
Ridge.
