LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Brandon Barksdale upon the occasion of
sponsoring the First Annual Community Health Fair on June 4, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Brandon Barksdale upon the occasion of sponsoring the First Annual
Community Health Fair on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at St. Martin De Porres
Roman Catholic Church, Buffalo, New York; and
WHEREAS, A sophomore at Frederick Law Olmsted High School, Brandon
Barksdale has been involved in Scouting for nine years, and is currently
working towards Scouting's highest and most prestigious rank, Eagle
Scout; to achieve this momentous honor, he must plan, develop and
execute a community service project; and
WHEREAS, A caring and compassionate young man, Brandon Barksdale
decided to dedicate his Eagle Project to his 15 year-old nephew, Jihad
Moore, who was diagnosed with stage 3A Hodgkin's Lymphoma on December 6,
2015; and
WHEREAS, Since that time, Jihad Moore has been receiving chemotherapy
treatments, and is currently waiting on the results of his scan before
beginning radiation; and
WHEREAS, Concerned for his nephew, Brandon Barksdale embarked on a
mission to organize a community health fair which would offer residents
free health screenings and mammograms, and help raise awareness about
various health issues; in addition, he is hoping many people will gener-
ously donate blood to the American Red Cross; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable young man has been the recipient of numerous
awards and accolades for his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his
community including the 2015 Youth Award by the NAACP of Buffalo, the
2015 Scout of the Year Award by the Boy Scouts of Buffalo, and the 2012
Youth of the Year Award by the St. Martin De Porres Roman Catholic
Church; and
WHEREAS, With his sense of civic duty and his devotion to others,
Brandon Barksdale represents the best development of the potential which
is inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Brandon Barksdale upon the occasion of sponsoring the First
Annual Community Health Fair on June 4, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Brandon Barksdale.
