LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending The Honorable David L. Levinson upon
the occasion of his retirement after 38 years of distinguished service
as Town Justice of Woodbury, New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those singular individuals who devote their purposeful lives
and careers to preserving the rights and protecting the welfare of the
citizens of their community and the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in the Woodbury community
has been ably served and uniquely enriched through the selfless dedi-
cation and benevolent concern of Judge David L. Levinson; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend The Honor-
able David L. Levinson upon the occasion of his retirement after 38
years of distinguished service as Town Justice of Woodbury, New York, to
be celebrated on Friday, June 10, 2016, at the Falkirk Estate and Coun-
try Club, Central Valley, New York; and
WHEREAS, David L. Levinson is the senior partner of the law firm of
Levinson, Reineke & Ornstein, P.C. of Central Valley, New York; he also
serves as Town Justice of Woodbury, New York, the esteemed position he
has held continuously since 1978; and
WHEREAS, Since 1994, David L. Levinson has also served as Village
Justice of Tuxedo Park, New York, as well as Assistant District Attorney
in New York County from July 1969 to September 1973; and
WHEREAS, David L. Levinson has a very extensive family law and
matriarchal practice in both Family Court and Supreme; he has appeared
for clients in Family Court in such New York Counties as; Orange, Rock-
land, Dutchess, Putnam, Westchester, Ulster, Rockland, Sullivan, New
York, Queens, Kings, Columbia and Onondaga; and
WHEREAS, Handling hundreds of appeals in the Appellate Division of the
State of New York in the first, second and third judicial departments,
David L. Levinson has appeared in the New York State Court of Appeals in
more than 15 appeals; many of his cases are used in national law schools
as part of their curriculum; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, David L. Levinson was recently afforded the
honor of arguing an appeal before the Supreme Court, State of New
Jersey, the highest court in that State; and
WHEREAS, Admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United
States and the Federal District Court for the Southern District of New
York, David L. Levinson has also served on the panel of arbitration of
the American Arbitration Association; and
WHEREAS, David L. Levinson graduated from Brooklyn Law School in June
of 1969, with a Juris Doctor degree cum laude; while attending law
school, he served on its law review in the positions of research and
article editors; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to the community he so ably serves, David L.
Levinson is a member of the Woodbury Lion's Club and the Woodbury Commu-
nity Association; and
WHEREAS, Active in numerous professional organizations, David L.
Levinson is past president of the Orange County Bar Association, and
remains a lifetime board member of the organization; he is a member of
the New York State Bar Association Family Law Section, and a member of
the New York State and Orange County Magistrates Associations; and
WHEREAS, In addition, David L. Levinson is a past president of Monroe
Temple of Liberal Judaism and remains a lifetime trustee for that reli-
gious organization; he served as a member of the Orange County Charter
Review Commission, and has been listed in "Who's Who in American Law";
and

WHEREAS, A dedicated public servant, David L. Levinson is also a
committed family man; he is the loving husband of Marjorie, and the
proud father of three children; and
WHEREAS, David L. Levinson, in every capacity in which he served, has
left his permanent mark on the criminal justice community and will
forever be remembered as a determined, innovative and genuinely
concerned expert in his field; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Honorable David L. Levinson upon the occasion of his retire-
ment after 38 years of distinguished service as Town Justice of Wood-
bury, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable David L. Levinson.
