LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Karen L. McGuckin upon the occasion of
her retirement after many years of distinguished service to Orange-Ul-
ster BOCES

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens of this great Empire State who have
devoted themselves to faithfully serving the best interests of their
community and the needs of its residents; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Karen L. McGuckin upon the occasion of her retirement after many years
of distinguished service to Orange-Ulster BOCES; and
WHEREAS, A 30-year resident of Orange County, Karen L. McGuckin came
to Orange-Ulster BOCES in 2004, following a 10-year career in adminis-
tration in healthcare beginning as Assistant to Chief of Oncology, and
culminating as the Administrative Assistant to the CEO of Bon Secours
Charity Health System in Suffern, New York; and
WHEREAS, During this time, Karen L. McGuckin served for 12 years as
Executive Assistant to the District Superintendent and Clerk of the
Board for Orange-Ulster BOCES; and
WHEREAS, In 2009, Karen L. McGuckin hosted a District Superintendents
Office Professionals (DSOP) event in which individuals from 37 BOCES
across the State of New York congregated for a two-day tour of the
Orange-Ulster campus and surrounding Hudson Valley attractions; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, during her illustrious tenure with Orange-Ulster
BOCES, Karen L. McGuckin served as support staff for administration and
the board during the transformation of the Arden Hill Hospital into the
successful Orange-Ulster BOCES Regional Education Center at Arden Hill;
and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, Karen L.
McGuckin earned a Certificate of Recognition from the New York State
School Boards Association (NYSSBA) for District Clerks in 2012, and
received a Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Service in 2013,
from the Orange County School Board Association; and
WHEREAS, In addition, she was presented with the Mid-Hudson School
Study Council Award for Excellence in Support Staff Services in 2015;
and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blend-
ing of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that demon-
strated by Karen L. McGuckin over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication
to others; and
WHEREAS, In her official acts, Karen L. McGuckin was governed by a
keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems,
earning her the admiration, esteem and affection of her colleagues; she
will officially retire in July of 2016; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Karen L. McGuckin, and to wish her
continued success in all her future endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Karen L. McGuckin upon the occasion of her retirement after many
years of distinguished service to Orange-Ulster BOCES; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Karen L. McGuckin.
