LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Louise McNeilly upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by the United Tenants of Albany
on June 16, 2016
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Louise
McNeilly upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by
the United Tenants of Albany, to be celebrated at its Annual Meeting on
Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Albany, New
York; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Louise McNeilly earned an undergraduate degree in Peace and
Development Studies and a Master of Science degree in Community Economic
Development; and
WHEREAS, For more than 30 years, Louise McNeilly has worked in social
change, community organizing and community development as well as with
local and national peace and economic justice groups; and
WHEREAS, During her 15-year tenure with the Community Loan Fund of the
Capital Region, Louise brought a substantial financial investment into
Albany, New York's disinvested neighborhoods for projects of high social
and economic impact, and she encouraged other financial institutions to
do the same; and
WHEREAS, Presently, Louise McNeilly is working with the Affordable
Housing Partnership and the Albany Community Land Trust to help prevent
foreclosures, revitalize Sheridan Hollow, increase outreach, and facili-
tate increased efforts among nonprofit community development groups; and
WHEREAS, As a neighborhood organizer, Louise McNeilly has led a number
of initiatives to preserve and improve the quality of life for her
community, including Friends of the Normanskill Farm, the Delaware
Community Farmer's Market, a Walk to Work effort, Citizens for Responsi-
ble Zoning, neighborhood planning and a community purchase of a commer-
cial property; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Louise McNeilly has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Louise McNeilly has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Louise McNeilly upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the United Tenants of Albany on June 16, 2016; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Louise McNeilly.
