LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the North Flatbush Avenue Business
Improvement District upon the occasion of hosting its 30th Year Anniver-
sary Annual Meeting on June 16, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the North Flatbush Avenue Business Improvement District upon the occa-
sion of hosting its 30th Year Anniversary Annual Meeting, to be cele-
brated on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The North Flatbush Avenue Business Improvement District (BID)
was formed over 35 years ago by a group of committed citizens who joined
forces to improve the area known as North Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn,
New York; the group was comprised of merchants, property owners and
residents who were concerned about keeping Flatbush Avenue a vibrant
commercial district; and
WHEREAS, Through the years, the members of the Board of Directors have
struggled to create a cohesive identity for the North Flatbush Avenue
BID that would be responsive to the changing demographic without losing
long-time businesses, and to create an atmosphere that is rich with
"Brooklyn" spirit; and
WHEREAS, The North Flatbush Avenue BID's dedicated and professional
staff are led by President, Regina Cahill, and a Board of Directors
comprised of community residents, merchants, and business leaders who
are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all members of the
North Flatbush community; and
WHEREAS, The North Flatbush Avenue BID provides services such as
street sweeping to assist businesses in maintaining a clean appearance
along the six-block commercial zone, and graffiti removal for main doors
and gates to maintain clean physical conditions that create a more
appealing environment for shoppers and residents; and
WHEREAS, Complementing these services, the North Flatbush Avenue BID
offers children's events, special events during holidays, free merchant
workshops and speaker venues, merchant sponsored banners, shopping and
services guides with merchant sponsored advertising, a website, Facebook
and Twitter feeds; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the North Flatbush Avenue BID advocates for
street and sidewalk improvements through written proposals to government
officials, and presently, is working with the New York City Department
of Transportation on a capital streetscape project to enhance the Trian-
gle Parks along the corridor of Flatbush Avenue; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the North Flatbush Avenue Business Improvement District upon the
occasion of hosting its 30th Year Anniversary Annual Meeting; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Regina Cahill, President, the North Flatbush Avenue Business
Improvement District.
