LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Linda Patterson upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by the Black Caucus of the Coun-
cil for School Administrators on June 11, 2016
WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
accomplishments of those distinguished educational leaders, whose dedi-
cation and achievements have been instrumental in developing character
and academic excellence in the young people of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Linda Patterson upon the occasion of her designation for special recog-
nition by the Black Caucus of the Council for School Administrators, to
be celebrated at its Legendary Luncheon on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at
Terrace on the Park, Flushing, New York; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Brooklyn, New York, Linda Patterson
attended Public School 20, Rothschild Junior High School and the LaGuar-
dia High School of Music and Art; and
WHEREAS, Linda Patterson's illustrious teaching career began in Brook-
lyn at Francis Scott Key Junior High School; she went on to Sands Junior
School, and later to Charles Dewey Junior High School before accepting
the position of Assistant Principal at Ryan Junior High School and later
at Woodside Junior High School; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, she served as principal of Public School 9 and
The Bergen Upper School in District 13; she has also served in the Chan-
cellors Office of the New York City Department of Education, and with
New Leaders for New Schools; and
WHEREAS, Linda Patterson is currently the Director of the Adelaide
Sanford Institute for Research, Development, and the Education of
Students of African Descent; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Linda Patterson, this vital
Institute serves as a clearing house for best practices as they relate
to the holistic education of students of African descent and provide a
collegial framework for the sharing of culturally responsive and exem-
plary pedagogy, programs and schools that have produced high achievement
among students of color; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman also serves as an independent educational
consultant to schools in New York City; her work has focused on leader-
ship training and support, school-wide goal setting, new teacher
induction, teacher assessment systems, professional development, data
analysis to inform instruction, curriculum development, and school
management systems; and
WHEREAS, Linda Patterson works with administrators, teachers, parents,
and students, to build school community, provide a rigorous instruc-
tional program, and increase student achievement; she assists schools in
their adoption of the Common Core State Standards; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Linda Patterson has served as a school
administrator, teacher, and central office administrator with the New
York City Department of Education; she has taught Educational Management
at Brooklyn College, City University of New York; Educational Assessment
and Evaluation at Empire State College, Saratoga, New York; and super-
vises student teachers at Hunter College; and
WHEREAS, Linda Patterson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the
University of Vermont, a Masters of Educational Administration from the
University of Virginia, and a Doctoral degree in Educational Adminis-
tration from New York University; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to her community, Linda Patterson is a life
member of the NAACP and the Association of Black Educators of New York;
she attends the Emmanuel Baptist Church and holds membership in the
academic honor societies of Kappa Delta Pi, Pi Lambda Theta, and presi-
dent emeritus of Phi Kappa Delta; and
WHEREAS, The future success of our State and Nation is dependent upon
individuals such as Linda Patterson, who dedicate their lives as educa-
tors, nurturing our most precious resource, our youth; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to now record its
recognition and appreciation in honoring an outstanding educational
leader, whose dedication and achievements have been instrumental in
developing character and academic excellence in his students; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Linda Patterson upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the Black Caucus of the Council for School Admin-
istrators on June 11, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Linda Patterson.
