LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring outgoing President Alan Klinger upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition by Temple Israel of
Great Neck on April 19, 2015
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
outgoing President Alan Klinger upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by Temple Israel of Great Neck to be celebrated at
its 50th Journal Dinner Dance on Sunday, April 19, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Earning his undergraduate degree from Princeton, Alan Klinger
then obtained a Juris Doctor degree from New York University Law School;
and
WHEREAS, Following graduation, Alan Klinger clerked for Justice
Schreiber of the New Jersey Supreme Court before joining the national
law firm of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan in 1982; there, he specializes in
litigation and labor, becoming a partner in 1990, and Co-Managing Part-
ner in 2007; and
WHEREAS, In 1990, Alan Klinger and his wife Susan moved to Great Neck,
New York, and sought a place of worship where tradition was respected in
an environment which reflected modern views; he and his family found
this in Temple Israel of Great Neck; and
WHEREAS, Alan Klinger first became involved in synagogue governance at
Temple Israel of Great Neck as a member of ad hoc committees addressing
administrative matters, before being elected to the Board of Trustees,
and then the Executive Committee; and
WHEREAS, For four years, Alan Klinger served with honor and
distinction as President of Temple Israel; in this capacity, he worked
with the clergy and lay leadership to expand the portals of entry to
synagogue life to encourage a greater member participation; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Alan Klinger promoted a re-imaging of Temple
Israel of Great Neck's prayer services to foster enhanced meaning while
preserving the core of its practices; his goal was to facilitate a
blending of his community's diverse groups where congregants can learn
and benefit from the cultures and traditions of each other; and
WHEREAS, Alan Klinger has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; currently, he is a member of the New York
University Law School Board of Trustees, the Boards of Trustees of the
Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and Partnership with Chil-
dren, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Alan Klinger serves as Chairman of the Board of
Trustees of the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation,
and serves as a member of the ADL Lawyers Division's Chairman's Council
and UJA Lawyers Division's Executive Committee; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Alan Klinger has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, with him throughout have been his
three children, Zachary, Jesse, and Emily, all of whom feel privileged
to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Alan Klinger has displayed through-
out his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor outgoing President Alan Klinger upon the occasion of his desig-
nation for special recognition by Temple Israel of Great Neck on April
19, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to outgoing President Alan Klinger.
