LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim August 13, 2016, as Left-Handers Day in the State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize official
days that are set aside to increase awareness of issues that affect the
lives of citizens of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to memori-
alize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim August 13, 2016, as Left-Han-
ders Day in the State of New York, in conjunction with the observance of
National Left-Handers Day; and
WHEREAS, In a right-handed dominated world, August 13th is the day
that left-handed individuals can claim as their own; and
WHEREAS, International Left-Handers Day was founded in 1992, in the
United Kingdom; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 10% of the population is left-handed; scien-
tists have not figured out why a person is left-handed, but it is more
probable that if one of the parents is left-handed, the child will be
left handed; and
WHEREAS, On August 13, 2016, Americans should do something nice for
their left-handed friends, and if someone is right-handed, they should
try to do everything with their left hand; and
WHEREAS, Left-Handers Day is a chance to raise awareness of the every-
day issues that lefties face as they live in a world designed for right-
handers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim August 13, 2016, as
Left-Handers Day in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo.
