LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Principal John J. Dolan upon the occa-
sion of his retirement after more than 20 years of distinguished service
to the field of Catholic education

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this great
State; and
WHEREAS, The result of many individual efforts, the excellence and the
success of John S. Burke Catholic High School is due in large part to
the efforts of Principal John J. Dolan; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Principal
John J. Dolan upon the occasion of his retirement after more than 20
years of distinguished service to the field of Catholic education; and
WHEREAS, For many years, John J. Dolan rendered faithful, conscien-
tious and valuable service to John S. Burke Catholic High School; and
WHEREAS, After receiving his education from Fordham University and CW
Post College, John J. Dolan valiantly served as a member of the United
States Army Reserves during the Vietnam War, retiring as a Major; in
addition, he is a retired Sergeant Special Assignment with the New York
Police Department; and
WHEREAS, John J. Dolan began his illustrious career in Catholic educa-
tion at Our Lady of Lourdes High School before joining the faculty at
John S. Burke Catholic High School; he will officially retire from the
esteemed position of Principal at the completion of the 2016 school
year; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as Principal, John J. Dolan served with
loyalty, honor and distinction, earning him the admiration, esteem and
affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his loving wife, Nancy, and
their four wonderful children, John, Christine, Colleen and Michael, as
well as four beautiful grandchildren, Jack, Reese, Michael and Nicholas,
all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, John J. Dolan was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; and
WHEREAS, John J. Dolan has continually demonstrated an impressive
dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for
the quality of the educational programs and opportunities offered at
John S. Burke Catholic High School for the benefit of its faculty and
students, as well as for the entire community; and
WHEREAS, In completing his service as Principal, John J. Dolan leaves
behind more than mere bricks and mortar; he leaves behind a legacy to
the residents of the Goshen community and to future generations of its
students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Principal John J. Dolan upon the occasion of his retirement
after more than 20 years of distinguished service to the field of
Catholic education; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Principal John J. Dolan.
