LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Valedictorian and Salutatorian of
Floral Park Memorial High School, in recognition of their outstanding
accomplishments
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor the youth of
today -- the leaders of tomorrow -- whose character and achievements
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize
and commend the Valedictorian and Salutatorian of Floral Park Memorial
High School, in recognition of their outstanding accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Floral Park Memorial High School's 2015 Valedictorian is
Nicholas Konzelman, and its 2015 Salutatorian is Molly Dixon, both of
whom are being commended for their outstanding academic performances and
exemplary achievements; and
WHEREAS, Valedictorian Nicholas Konzelman is graduating with a
103.14-weighted Grade Point Average and earned a near perfect score on
his ACT, as well as merited a 5 in five Advanced Placement tests; he
plans to major in Public Policy; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas Konzelman has been an active and valued member of
the Floral Park Memorial High School community; in addition to being a
member of the track and cross-country teams, he has been the President
of Model UN for the past two years, and a Sunday School Teacher for the
past three years; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Nicholas Konzelman is the Vice-President of
fundraising for BuildOn; in this capacity, he helped to build the foun-
dation of a new elementary school in Nicaragua; and
WHEREAS, Recognized as a Scholar Athlete, Nicholas Konzelman is the
recipient of both the Coaches Award and the Brown University Book Award;
and
WHEREAS, Salutatorian Molly Dixon is graduating with a 102.13-weighted
Grade Point Average and is naturally gifted in mathematics; she merited
a 5 in four Advanced Placement tests, and has earned Outstanding
Achievement awards for two consecutive years by the Floral Park faculty,
and Excellence awards for Chemistry; and
WHEREAS, Molly Dixon has been an active and valued member of the
Floral Park Memorial High School community; in addition to being a
member of the cross-country team, she serves as a tutor for both the
National Junior and Senior Honor Societies; and
WHEREAS, An active member of Girl Scouts, Silver Award recipient,
Molly Dixon made Christmas gifts for Senior Citizens, and held fundrais-
ers for victims of both Hurricane Katrina and Super Storm Sandy; in
addition, she planned, developed, and coordinated a special hands-on day
for younger Scouts at the Queens Zoo; and
WHEREAS, Last June, Molly Dixon traveled to Costa Rica to deliver
school supplies as part of a Service Project entitled Echo Teach; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas Konzelman and Molly Dixon may now stand with pride
as they assess their achievements, experience the satisfaction of their
labors and the joy of their accomplishments, eager to face the new expe-
riences of a challenging world; and
WHEREAS, These exceptional students of Floral Park Memorial High
School represent the best of developed potential inherent in our most
precious resource, our youth; their achievements have brought enduring
honor to their families and communities and should be recognized and
saluted; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
students of outstanding character, who have shown initiative and commit-
ment toward constantly pursuing higher goals for themselves, and acting
as role models of leadership to be emulated by their peers; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Valedictorian and Salutatorian of Floral Park Memorial High
School, in recognition of their outstanding accomplishments, and to
extend to them the best wishes of this Legislative Body for a future of
purposeful success and well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nicholas Konzelman and Molly Dixon.
