LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Lee Tessler upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Robert Bernstein Humanitarian Award from
Voices Against Brain Cancer

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Lee Tessler upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Robert Bernstein Humanitarian Award from Voices Against Brain Cancer,
celebrated at its Fourth Annual Run for Rob on Sunday, October 19, 2014,
at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, New York; and
WHEREAS, Voices Against Brain Cancer is a national not-for-profit
organization with the mission to find a cure for brain cancer by advanc-
ing scientific research, increasing awareness in the medical community
and providing support to patients and their caregivers; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lee Tessler is a resident of Port Washington, New York,
and serves as the Executive Director and Co-surgical Director of the
Long Island Brain Tumor Center at Neurological Surgery, P.C. (NSPC); and
WHEREAS, After graduating cum laude from Duke University, Lee Tessler
obtained his medical degree from the Ohio State University College of
Medicine and Public Health; he served both his internship and residency
in the Department of Neurological Surgery at New York University (NYU)
Langone Medical Center, where he was named chief resident; and
WHEREAS, A Board Certified Neurosurgeon, Dr. Lee Tessler specializes
in the treatment of primary brain tumors, metastatic tumors and meningi-
omas, using surgery and radiosurgery; and
WHEREAS, In 2008, Dr. Lee Tessler was appointed as Assistant Professor
of Neurosurgery at NYU Langone Medical Center; he is currently Chief of
Neurotrauma and Chairman of Neurosurgery Quality Improvement Committee
at Winthrop-University Hospital; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he serves on Voices Against Brain Cancer's
Medical Advisory Board, and was also named to the Medical Advisory Board
of VirtualTrials.org; and
WHEREAS, Amongst countless awards and accolades, Dr. Lee Tessler is
the proud recipient of the Community Service Award from the Aleh Founda-
tion, which funds Israel's largest provider of educational rehabilita-
tive services to severely developmentally disabled children; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Dr. Lee Tessler's distinguished
record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative
Body; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dr. Lee Tessler has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Lee Tessler upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Robert Bernstein Humanitarian Award from Voices Against Brain
Cancer; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Lee Tessler.
