LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Angela Augugliaro upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor
bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Angela Augug-
liaro upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of a Liberty
Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York
State Senate; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, In 1977, Angela Augugliaro and her family moved to Bellerose,
New York, and shortly thereafter, she became involved with the Queens
Colony Civic Association, where she hoped to get to know her new neigh-
bors and learn about her new neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, A working mother, Angela Augugliaro volunteered as a PTA
board member at her children's school; after her daughters joined the
Girl Scouts, she served as a Troop leader for several years; and
WHEREAS, Angela Augugliaro's involvement with the Queens Colony Civic
Association evolved because of her concern for the quality of life with-
in the community of Bellerose; she worked on the refreshment committee,
and became the Corresponding Secretary; and
WHEREAS, In 1984, Angela Augugliaro held the title of co-President; in
this capacity, she was instrumental in advocating for her community
throughout major reconstruction of Commonwealth Boulevard and the Cross
Island Parkway; for 28 years, has served as President of the Associ-
ation; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her tenure as a civic leader, Angela Augugliaro
has successfully accomplished numerous goals including fighting proposed
zoning changes to School District 26, and having her Bellerose neighbor-
hood rezoned to a one-family only zone; and
WHEREAS, Since that time there has been an increase in the number of
two-family homes which began to affect the quality of life of the Belle-
rose residents; several years ago, Angela Augugliaro strived to prevent
further over-development and overcrowding in her neighborhood, by co-au-
thoring a new zoning designation which was called R2N; and
WHEREAS, As a result of her invaluable work, her community's infras-
tructure has been stabilized and the Bellerose residents' lives have
been enhanced; and
WHEREAS, In 1999, Angela Augugliaro was appointed to Community Board
13Q where she currently holds the position of First Vice Chair; three
years later, the Joint Bellerose Business District Development Corpo-
ration was formed and she was one of the founding members; and
WHEREAS, The Corporation is a not-for-profit organization formed to
improve the activity and look of the business strip of Jamaica
Avenue/Jericho Turnpike; some of the Corporation's accomplishments
include the placement of cast iron ornamental street lights along the

business strip, a tree planting program along Jericho Turnpike, and
maintaining a graffiti free environment; and
WHEREAS, For her steadfast and unremitting commitment to her communi-
ty, Angela Augugliaro was the recipient of the 2012 Woman of the Year
Award; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Michael, and her
three daughters, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life
and rejoice in her accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Individuals such as Angela Augugliaro, devoted to improving
the quality of life for others, enabling them to build lives of dignity
and self-worth, are deserving of the highest praise and recognition;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Angela Augugliaro upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by
the New York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Angela Augugliaro.
