LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Don Hunt, Jr. for his heroic actions
on May 8, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
caring concern and heroic acts of those exemplary citizens, who take
prompt and appropriate action in emergency situations, and in doing so,
help others to avert life-threatening danger; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Don Hunt, Jr. for his heroic actions on Sunday, May 8, 2016; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident and outstanding member of the Town of
Lumberland community, Don Hunt, Jr. has been an active member of the
Lumberland Fire Department for many years and served as an Officer, and
most recently, as Fire Department Chief; and
WHEREAS: On May 8, 2016, Don Hunt, Jr. was on a personal errand when
he spotted two people who were not wearing lifejackets struggling in the
Delaware River after their canoe had capsized; and
WHEREAS: Don Hunt, Jr. swiftly and professionally responded to the
situation, sending his wife for help while he assisted the canoers in
getting them safely to shore; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man was instrumental in avoiding a tragedy
and saving two lives, truly epitomizing the true meaning of volunteer-
ism, professionalism and dedication to his community; and
WHEREAS, Don Hunt, Jr. through his spontaneous and heroic actions,
demonstrated his character and his compassion for the welfare of others,
personifying, by virtue of his actions, the collective concern of ordi-
nary citizens across the community of the State of New York who volun-
tarily respond when others are in need of help; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Don Hunt, Jr. for his heroic actions on May 8, 2016; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Don Hunt, Jr.
