LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Christian Brothers Academy
Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team upon the occasion of capturing the New York
State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Girls Lacrosse
Class A Championship

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, teamwork, and a dedicated coaching
staff; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
young people within the State of New York who, by achieving outstanding
success in athletic competition, have inspired and brought great pride
to their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and developing a sense
of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, The Christian Brothers Academy Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team,
of Syracuse, New York, won the 2016 New York State Girls Lacrosse Class
A Championship on June 11, 2016, with an impressive 11-6 win over Pitts-
ford at the State University of New York at Cortland; and
WHEREAS, This 2016 Championship marked the Christian Brothers Academy
Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team's third state title in the past five years;
in 2011, the CBA team won the state championship against Mount Sinai;
then, in 2013, the team secured the state title over Brighton; and
WHEREAS, On the morning of June 11, 2016, the Christian Brothers Acad-
emy Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team waited out a pregame thunderstorm for
over 30 minutes in the locker room before the first whistle blew on the
field, marking the beginning of the New York State Class A title game;
and
WHEREAS, The Christian Brothers Academy Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team
claimed the first four goals of the game, surging early and proving that
they were determined to win; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the game, the Christian Brothers Academy Girls
Varsity Lacrosse Team also played strong defense, forcing a turnover or
bad shot, each time they were tested by the Pittsford team; and
WHEREAS, The Christian Brothers Academy Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team
took a 5-3 lead into halftime, and capitalized on that lead by making
four goals in just 1 minute, 26 seconds early in the second half of the
game; and
WHEREAS, Although Pittsford rallied with three quick goals late in the
second half to edge within 10-6, the Christian Brothers Academy Girls
Varsity Lacrosse Team kept possession of the ball for 5 minutes before
scoring one last goal with 27 seconds left; and
WHEREAS, In securing this victory on June 11, 2016, the Christian
Brothers Academy Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team finished their perfect 2016
season undefeated with a record of 21-0; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the Christian Brothers Academy
Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team has proven to be an unbeatable combination
of talents, reflecting favorably on Christian Brothers Academy and the
entire Syracuse-area community; and
WHEREAS, The talent displayed by the Christian Brothers Academy Girls
Varsity Lacrosse Team is due in great part to the efforts of Head Coach
Doug Sedgwick and Assistant Coaches Pat Britton, Claire Sedgwick, and
Fran Webster; these skilled coaches have helped develop potential into
excellence; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Christian Brothers Academy Girls Varsity
Lacrosse Team who are being commended for their exemplary achievements
are: Alli Anderson (20), Madison Cook (12), Kate Derrenbacker (7), Emily
Ehle (23), Adrianna Fess (5), Alexandra Fess (17), Amanda Fess (2),
Kathleen Harrigan (30), Jillian Henson (9), Maddie Henson (16), Lillie
Hunt (25), Grace Huslander (6), Anna Jeschke (26), Claire Jeschke (1),
Danielle Kennedy (21), Shannon Letourneau (8), Beth Lumia (4), Lexi
Luthringer (13), Erika Mayette (18), Samantha McKenna (14), Riley Morgan
(3), Sloan Nicoletti-Watson (24), Olivia Penoyer (22), Tessa Queri (10),
Meredith Strott (19), Rachel Vercillo (11), and Rachel Ziemba (15); and
WHEREAS, Throughout the Christian Brothers Academy Girls Varsity
Lacrosse Team's season, players were always loyally and enthusiastically
supported by family, friends and fans from throughout the entire commu-
nity; and
WHEREAS, The Christian Brothers Academy Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team
has demonstrated outstanding athletic ability and good sportsmanship,
proving that they are second to none; and
WHEREAS, These athletes from the 2016 Christian Brothers Academy Girls
Varsity Lacrosse Team may stand with pride as they assess their achieve-
ments and experience the action of their labors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Christian Brothers Academy Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team
upon the occasion of their New York State Public High School Athletic
Association (NYSPHSAA) Girls Lacrosse Class A Championship title; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members of the Christian Brothers Academy Girls Varsity
Lacrosse Team Head Coach Doug Sedgwick and Assistant Coaches Pat Brit-
ton, Claire Sedgwick, and Fran Webster.
