LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Nadine Kimbrough upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award by In
Our Own Voices, Inc. on July 17, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Nadine Kimbrough upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Volunteer of the Year Award by In Our Own Voices, Inc., to be cele-
brated at its Annual Jazz in July Event on Sunday, July 17, 2016, at the
State Room, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, In Our Own Voices is an autonomous organization dedicated to
addressing the many needs and ensuring the physical, mental, spiritual,
political, cultural, and economic survival and growth of the Lesbian,
Gay, Bisexual and Transgender People of Color (LGBT POC) community in
the Capital Region of Upstate New York; and
WHEREAS, Nadine "Dean" Kimbrough grew up in Queensbridge Housing
Projects, and graduated from LaGuardia Middle College High School; and
WHEREAS, After graduation, Nadine Kimbrough served as a certified
floor technician from 1992-1994, and after a brief stay at New York
University, decided to work for the First Presbyterian Church of New
York City, a position she held from 1994-1999; and
WHEREAS, From 1999-2002, Nadine Kimbrough held the title of Supervisor
for the Guardian Cleaning Company; after leaving this position, she went
to work for the City of New York at York College from 2002-2009; and
WHEREAS, In 2009, Nadine Kimbrough decided to relocate to Albany, New
York; one year later, she graduated from the New School of Radio and
Television; while doing her internship at B.E.T. in New York City, she
worked on the "106 & Park" television show; and
WHEREAS, After returning to Albany, Nadine Kimbrough held a position
at the Wadsworth Center for more than three years; she then began work-
ing as a cleaner for the Office of General Services; through the years,
she was promoted to the title of Receptionist; and
WHEREAS, Nadine Kimbrough has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, After a devastating time in her life, Nadine Kimbrough
decided to give back to her community by giving of her time and energy
to In Our Own Voices; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Nadine Kimbrough has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Our society is greatly benefited by the purposeful efforts of
individuals who unite for the cause of improving the quality of life for
others, and who proactively work toward the goal of dignity for all;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Nadine Kimbrough upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Volunteer of the Year Award by In Our Own Voices, Inc. on July
17, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nadine Kimbrough.
