LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating David Brownbill, Class of 1967,
upon the occasion of his induction into the 2014 SUNY Orange Colt
Athletic Hall of Fame
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess leaves an enduring legacy in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late David Brownbill, Class of 1967, upon the occasion of his induction
into the 2014 SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame, which was cele-
brated at a ceremony on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at Kuhl's Highland
House, Middletown, New York; and
WHEREAS, The SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes those
individuals, who, through outstanding achievement in athletics or
service, have made lasting contributions to its sports program and the
overall community; and
WHEREAS, David Brownbill, a member of the Class of 1967, was a two-
year standout for the SUNY Orange Men's Basketball Team during the
1964-65 and 1965-66 seasons; and
WHEREAS, A prolific scorer and known sharpshooter, David Brownbill
amassed 1,356 points during his career and today ranks second on the
Colts' all-time scoring list; and
WHEREAS, In 1965, David Brownbill led the East Coast Junior College
Conference in scoring, averaging 29.5 points per game; he was named to
the ECJCC All-Star Team, and was named the ECJCC tournament Most Valu-
able Player; furthermore, he was the only New Yorker named to the New
York-Maryland Challenge Cup All-Tournament Team; and
WHEREAS, The following year, David Brownbill helped the Colts to a
sparkling 17-5 record before continuing his career at Hofstra, and grad-
uating from the Long Island university in 1969; and
WHEREAS, During the 1970s and 1980s, David Brownbill played alongside
many basketball greats while participating in the legendary Rucker Tour-
nament in New York City; he was also a close friend of National Basket-
ball Association Hall of Famer Julius "Dr. J." Erving; and
WHEREAS, David Brownbill was also a member of the Harlem Laugh-Ins
travelling comedy basketball team which barnstormed the Northeast in the
early 1970s; and
WHEREAS, Currently, David Brownbill is a Screen Actors Guild-American
Federation of Television and Radio Artists actor who has appeared brief-
ly in a variety of television shows and movies, including "Law and
Order," "The Sopranos," "Spiderman 3," and "We Own the Night"; in addi-
tion, he teaches a computer lab for senior citizens at the New York City
Senior Center; and
WHEREAS, Athletes such as David Brownbill provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success
in their future years; and
WHEREAS, David Brownbill has clearly been an inspiration to the youth
of SUNY Orange, as well as to the community-at-large, and accordingly
merits recognition and applause for his impressive dedication to others;
and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and David Brownbill has clearly made a contribution to
the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate David Brownbill, Class of 1967, upon the occasion of his
induction into the 2014 SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to David Brownbill.
