LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Yogi Davis, Class of 1971, upon
the occasion of his induction into the 2014 SUNY Orange Colt Athletic
Hall of Fame

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess leaves an enduring legacy in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Yogi Davis, Class of 1971, upon the occasion of his induction into
the 2014 SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame, which was celebrated at
a ceremony on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at the Kuhl's Highland House,
Middletown, New York; and
WHEREAS, The SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes those
individuals, who, through outstanding achievement in athletics or
service, have made lasting contributions to its sports program and the
overall community; and
WHEREAS, Yogi Davis, a member of the Class of 1971, was first intro-
duced to Colt athletics while serving as a Student Manager for several
Colt teams; he was Team Manager for the Cross Country squad in 1968,
1969 and 1970, and served in that same capacity for the baseball teams
in 1969, 1970 and 1971; in addition, he also managed the wrestling team
for one year; and
WHEREAS, In 1974, Yogi Davis returned to SUNY Orange as a full-time
Technical Assistant for the Physical Education Department and the Equip-
ment Manager for the Athletics and Recreation Department; and
WHEREAS, For the past 39 years, Yogi Davis has been a constant pres-
ence throughout the Physical Education complex, serving as an advisor to
the cross country, basketball and baseball teams until his retirement in
2013; and
WHEREAS, Today, this devoted supporter of SUNY Orange athletics
remains at the College in a part-time capacity, serving as Building
Supervisor for the College's Recreation Club; and
WHEREAS, A member of numerous civic and professional organizations,
Yogi Davis has been involved with the Association for Equipment Managers
of America and was a member of the Middletown Jaycees and the Middletown
Elks; he remains active with Orange County Special Olympics; and
WHEREAS, Throughout Yogi Davis' tenure, no one has been more involved
with SUNY Orange Colt programs, nor more instrumental in their success;
and
WHEREAS, A tremendous supporter of both SUNY Orange athletes and their
coaches, he has watched more minutes of soccer and basketball, and more
innings of baseball and softball than any other Colt, proving to be
their biggest fan; and
WHEREAS, Yogi Davis has clearly been an inspiration to the youth of
SUNY Orange, as well as to the community-at-large, and accordingly
merits recognition and applause for his impressive dedication to others;
and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Yogi Davis has displayed throughout
his life; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Yogi Davis has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Yogi Davis, Class of 1971, upon the occasion of his

induction into the 2014 SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Yogi Davis.
