LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 39th Annual Mid-Hudson St.
Patrick's Day Parade on March 15, 2015, and honoring Ann Michel upon the
occasion of her designation as Grand Marshal of the Parade
WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time to celebrate the rich heritage of
the Irish people, unlimited in their contribution to this State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland and provides an opportunity for
people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 39th
Annual Mid-Hudson St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday, March 15, 2015,
and to honor Ann Michel upon the occasion of her designation as Grand
Marshal of the Parade, to be held in Goshen, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Mid-Hudson St. Patrick's Parade Committee, organizer of
this fine event, is comprised of representatives of several Orange Coun-
ty organizations; the parade is the largest cultural event in Orange
County, and is also the biggest single-day celebration in Goshen; and
WHEREAS, The Mass in honor of St. Patrick, as well as the Grand
Marshal's Breakfast on the morning of the parade, has also been planned
by the Parade Committee members, who work diligently all year to make
these events successful and memorable; and
WHEREAS, The Grand Marshal for the 2015 Parade from LAOH Division 4,
Ann Michel is a proud native of Brooklyn, New York, who relocated to
Orange County in 1961; and
WHEREAS, Since 1995, Ann Michel has been tremendously active in the
Irish American Community in the Hudson Valley area; and
WHEREAS, Ann Michel is a past member of LAOH Division 3, and was a
charter member of the Orange County LAOH Board; in addition, she volun-
teers her time and energies with the Irish Heritage Festival, and the
Lady of Knock Mass and breakfast; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Ann Michel is involved with the Mid-Hudson
St. Patrick's Parade Committee, assisting with fundraising and co-chair-
ing the Grand Marshal's Mass for several years; and
WHEREAS, Ann Michel retired from the New York State BOCES after 35
years of distinguished service; and
WHEREAS, Today, she is the proud mother of four children, and the
loving grandmother of 11 grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to
be a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, The St. Patrick's Day Parade celebrates the spirit, purity
and strength of the Irish culture and its fine traditions; and
WHEREAS, Through this heartfelt and compassionate expression, as well
as through their sustained commitment to the cultural vitality of their
Irish heritage, the Irish-American people of Orange County, the Mid-Hud-
son area and the State of New York bear witness to the deep faith and
love of humanity which is their rich tradition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 39th Annual Mid-Hudson St. Patrick's Day Parade, to be
held on March 15, 2015, and to honor Ann Michel upon the occasion of her
designation as the 2015 Grand Marshal; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Mid-Hudson St. Patrick's Parade Committee, and Grand
Marshal Ann Michel.
