LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Kiwanis
Club of Manhasset-Port Washington on October 8, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is also the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize
and pay tribute to those fraternal organizations of high purpose and
worthy accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare
of the citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 75th Anniversary of the Kiwanis Club of Manhasset-Port Wash-
ington, at its Annual Gala celebrated on October 8, 2014, at the Port
Washington Yacht Club, Port Washington, New York; and
WHEREAS, Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to
changing the world, one child and one community at a time; and
WHEREAS, The six permanent objects of Kiwanis International are to:
give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material
values of life; encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all
human relationships; promote the adoption and the application of higher
social, business, and professional standards; develop, by precept and
example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship;
provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring
friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communi-
ties; and cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opin-
ion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness,
justice, patriotism, and goodwill; and
WHEREAS, In 1939, the Port Washington Kiwanis Club sponsored the
Manhasset Kiwanis Club; both clubs ran separately until 2011, when a
certificate of change was approved to become the combined Kiwanis Club
of Manhasset-Port Washington; today, the Club flourishes with nearly 100
members; and
WHEREAS, The mission statement of the Kiwanis Club of Manhasset-Port
Washington is "Serving the Children of the World" through camaraderie,
leadership, and teamwork of our members with a focus on children, we
serve the needs of our community and the goals of Kiwanis International;
and
WHEREAS, The honorees of this year's event were Carl Lalena and Selwyn
"Jerry" Rudnick; both men are integral to the success of this local
chapter and have served as past Presidents of the Manhasset-Port Wash-
ington Kiwanis Club; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Manhasset-Port
Washington Kiwanis Club; and
WHEREAS, Organizations of singular distinction such as the Manhasset-
Port Washington Kiwanis Club provide a model for enhancing the quality
of life in the community and, as such, merit the grateful praise of the
community of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Kiwanis Club of Manhasset-Port
Washington on October 8, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Manhasset-Port Washington Kiwanis Club.
