LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Ice
Rink at the Great Neck Park District's Parkwood Sports Complex on Novem-
ber 5, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those organ-
izations which faithfully devote their purposeful energies to fostering
opportunities for and to contributing to the quality of life for the
youth of the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 50th
Anniversary of the Ice Rink at the Great Neck Park District's Parkwood
Sports Complex on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, Great Neck, New York; and
WHEREAS, To honor this auspicious event, the celebration included free
admission and festivities throughout the evening, such as a live
performance, open public skating, cake, giveaways, raffle prizes, DJ
music and special lighting; and
WHEREAS, Great Neck's own 2002 Olympic gold medal champion, Sarah
Hughes and her sister Emily Hughes, an Olympic, World and National
skater, were the hosts during the show and mesmerized the audience with
their spectacular performances; Jimmy Ma, also a native of Great Neck,
gave a stunning performance, amazing the audience with his skill; and
WHEREAS, In addition, there were performances by the Great Neck Figure
Skating Club, Great Neck Bears/Bruins Hockey Teams, Tony Conte with
Natasha Durso, The Icettes Synchronized Skating Team, Francesca Cilluf-
fo, Amie Adjakple, Rachel B. and Alexandra Hughes Parker, and the Thera-
peutic Skaters; and
WHEREAS, The Ice Rink, located in Great Neck Park District's Parkwood
Sports Complex on Arrandale Avenue, has served the interests of the
people of the Empire State by providing the Village of Great Neck with
an Olympic size refrigerated ice rink; the Ice Rink also offers public
skating, skate rentals, and is home to the Great Neck Hockey Bruins
Travel Hockey and Bears; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the Great Neck Skate School offers classes for
all ages and abilities, as well as camps and private lessons; the school
follows the curriculum and standards set by the Ice Skating Institute
and are structured to promote a fun and recreational atmosphere; and
WHEREAS, The goal of the Great Neck School is to develop skaters
naturally and to encourage future athletes; within the school many
programs are available for the different needs of skaters, and its high-
ly qualified staff of professionals is dedicated to promoting the sport
of figure skating and creating a fun and positive environment for the
whole family; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those organ-
izations which enhance the quality of life in their community and have
shown a long and sustained commitment to the maintenance of high stand-
ards in their mission, certainly have earned the recognition and
applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Ice Rink at the Great Neck Park
District's Parkwood Sports Complex on November 5, 2014; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Ice Rink at the Great Neck Park District's Parkwood
Sports Complex.
