LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending outgoing Chief Daniel Bennett upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition after numerous years
of dedicated service to the Floral Park Fire Department, Floral Park,
New York

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend outgoing Chief
Daniel Bennett upon the occasion of his designation for special recogni-
tion after numerous years of dedicated service to the Floral Park Fire
Department to be celebrated at its Annual Installation of Officers
Dinner on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at the Chateau Briand, Carle Place,
New York; and
WHEREAS, On September 10, 1973, Daniel Bennett became a member of
Floral Park's Alert Engine One; four years later, he and his wife Maria,
relocated to Malverne, New York, where he became a part of the Malverne
Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, Upon his return to Floral Park in 1985, Daniel Bennett joined
the Fire Department's Rescue Company; and
WHEREAS, In 1988, Daniel Bennett transferred to Floral Park's Active
Engine company where he rose through the ranks, holding the position of
Company Captain on two separate occasions; and
WHEREAS, Nineteen years later, Daniel Bennett returned to the Rescue
Company and faithfully served as 4th Assistant Chief in 2010, the 3rd
Assistant Chief in 2011, the 2nd Assistant Chief in 2012, and the 1st
Assistant Chief in 2013; in 2014, he earned the prestigious rank of
Department Chief, a position he held until 2015; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Daniel
Bennett is such a firefighter; throughout numerous years of devoted
service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call
of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend outgoing Chief Daniel Bennett for numerous years of distin-
guished service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to outgoing Chief Daniel Bennett.
