LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Adirondack
Studios on February 21, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and pay trib-
ute to those cultural institutions and organizations whose commitment to
promoting the richness and diversity of the arts and entertainment world
has contributed to the strength, vitality, and cultural enrichment of
their communities and the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, it gives this Legislative Body great pleasure to
commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Adirondack Studios, to be celebrated
on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at the Charles R. Wood Theater, Glens
Falls, New York; and
WHEREAS, Located in Upstate New York, Adirondack Studios was founded
in 1975 by David Thomas Lloyd and Christopher Detmer as a resource for
design and custom fabrication, and with the core objective of providing
scenery and technology solutions to the performing arts industry; and
WHEREAS, A successful, substantial and respected creative force in the
entertainment industry, Adirondack Studios has built its impressive
reputation through astute, pragmatic and elegant contributions to every
project; and
WHEREAS, Formerly operating out of a facility in Glens Falls, New
York, and catering primarily to Broadway and regional theatrical
productions, Adirondack Studios now occupies a 125,000-square-foot
building in Argyle, New York; this larger improved space includes
studios for design, carpentry, metal fabrications, painting, electrics,
soft goods, and project management; and
WHEREAS, In addition to touring Broadway productions and live enter-
tainment events, Adirondack Studios serves museums, theme parks, hotels
and educational institutions; and
WHEREAS, In 2010, Adirondack Asia was established to support the
company's contribution of sets, props and special effects to build the
"Revenge of the Mummy" attraction at Universal Studios Singapore; they
also opened shops in both China and Dubai, as well as another new shop
in Lake Hamilton, Florida, in 2011; and
WHEREAS, For four decades, Adirondack Studios has employed full-time
and freelance artists and technicians who specialize in scenic art,
carpentry, lighting, sculpting and related fields; and
WHEREAS, The arts are the building blocks of civilization; they are
central to human expression; they enlighten us and inspire the imagina-
tion; these illustrious institutions, individuals, and organizations
which further such worthy purposes richly merit the recognition and
appreciation of this Legislative Body and the people of the State of New
York; and
WHEREAS, As Adirondack Studios looks back with great pride to its
beginnings, viewing, with just satisfaction, its successful evolution,
it renews both its dedication to supporting artistic excellence, and its
commitment to the community it has served since 1975, expressing its
appreciation to all those who have helped to sustain and enhance it over
the years; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Adirondack Studios on February 21,
2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Adirondack Studios, Argyle, New York.
