LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending The Coalition Standing Up for the
South End against Big Oil and Big Railroads upon the occasion of its
designation for special recognition by AVillage, Inc. on February 21,
2015

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
The Coalition Standing Up for the South End against Big Oil and Big
Railroads upon the occasion of its designation for special recognition
by AVillage, Inc. celebrated at its 2nd Annual Celebration of Progress
on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at the Downtown Holiday Inn Express,
Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, AVillage, Inc.'s mission is to improve the quality of life
for residents of the South End in Albany, New York, and beyond, by
reclaiming our neighborhoods, by encouraging, engaging, and empowering
our communities; and
WHEREAS, Comprised of individuals, elected officials, and organiza-
tions, The Coalition Standing Up for the South End against Big Oil and
Big Railroads has served the interests of the people of the Empire State
by joining with residents of the South End who have advocated to delay a
decision on the proposed furnaces to heat oil cars, and to have both
more thorough and long term air quality monitoring, as well as support
rail routes that do not disproportionately affect low income communities
of color; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the dedicated service
of the members of The Coalition Standing Up for the South End against
Big Oil and Big Railroads; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Coalition Standing Up for the South End against Big Oil and
Big Railroads upon the occasion of its designation for special recogni-
tion by AVillage, Inc. on February 21, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Coalition Standing Up for the South End against Big Oil
and Big Railroads.
