LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Philip Messing upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Excellence in Media Award from the
National Police Defense Foundation on May 6, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those illustrious journalistic entities which have diligently and
consistently, year after year, recorded the history of their communities
and brought local news and news of the larger world to their readers;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Philip Messing upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Excellence in Media Award by the National Police Defense Foundation to
be celebrated at its Annual Awards Dinner at Russo's on the Bay in
Howard Beach, New York, on Wednesday, May 6, 2015; and
WHEREAS, A native of Brooklyn, New York, Philip Messing earned his
Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Baruch College in New York City;
and
WHEREAS, For more than 35 years, except for brief breaks when he
worked as a television news reporter and a private investigator for a
corporate security firm, Philip Messing has been a career newspaperman,
largely focusing upon issues within the law enforcement community; and
WHEREAS, Philip Messing was assigned to the New York Post Police Head-
quarters bureau for two decades; he also worked at the Brooklyn Federal
Court, where he covered numerous mob trials; and
WHEREAS, Philip Messing has written numerous thought-provoking
stories, and has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades,
including those from both the Society of Silurians and the Associated
Press; and
WHEREAS, A man of singular distinction, Philip Messing has continually
demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent
leadership in his unwavering service to his community and profession and
consequently has been designated for this most prestigious award; and
WHEREAS, Philip Messing has, throughout his career and purposeful
life, served his community with integrity and devotion, continuously
striving to meet the needs of his readers through honesty and enlight-
enment; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Philip Messing upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Excellence in Media Award from the National Police Defense Foun-
dation on May 6, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Philip Messing.
