LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Guy V. Molinari, Esq. upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the
National Police Defense Foundation on May 6, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize those
individuals of preeminent character whose lives exemplify the highest
ideals of humanity and whose lifework and civic endeavor serve to
enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Guy
V. Molinari, Esq. upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Police Defense Foundation
to be celebrated at its 2015 Annual Awards Dinner at Russo's on the Bay
in Howard Beach, New York, on Wednesday, May 6, 2015; and
WHEREAS, A man of singular distinction, Guy V. Molinari has contin-
ually demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and
diligent leadership in his unwavering service to his community and
profession and consequently has been designated for this most presti-
gious award; and
WHEREAS, Prior to earning his law degree from New York Law School, Guy
V. Molinari received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wagner College in
Staten Island; and
WHEREAS, A proud public servant, Guy V. Molinari was elected to the
position of New York State Assemblyman, serving his constituents from
1975-1980; and
WHEREAS, In 1981, Assemblyman Guy V. Molinari was selected as New York
State Delegate to the United States Congress, a title he held for eight
years; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure as a Congressman, Guy V. Molinari was both
a member of the Public Works and Transportation Committee and the Inves-
tigations and Oversight Subcommittee; he became the leading expert on
aviation safety and appeared to discuss the issue on numerous news
programs; and
WHEREAS, Upon his leave from Congress, Guy V. Molinari became Borough
President of Staten Island in 1990, working tirelessly in this position
for 11 years; and
WHEREAS, Among his many lasting accomplishments as Borough President,
Guy V. Molinari crafted the historic agreement to close the Fresh Kills
Landfill in 2001; this ended 50 years of continuous dumping on Staten
Island, and started the process of converting the 2,200 acre municipal
landfill into a world-class, multi-purpose park, and recreation center;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, Guy V. Molinari was instrumental in bringing the
Staten Island Heart Institute to Staten Island in 2001; today, the
Institute ranks as one of the top facilities in New York State for
cardiac care procedures; and
WHEREAS, Guy V. Molinari helped lead New York City through a deter-
mined rebuilding process in the aftermath of 9/11; and
WHEREAS, For decades of accomplished service on behalf of the people
of New York City, Guy V. Molinari was awarded the highest honor a Staten
Island official could receive; in September of 2003, the newest Staten
Island Ferry boat was named in his honor, marking the first time this
accolade was bestowed upon an individual during his or her lifetime; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his wife, Marguerite, with him throughout has
been his daughter, Susan, who feels privileged to be a part of his life
and rejoices in his achievements; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blend-
ing of strength, intellect and commitment as that demonstrated by Guy V.
Molinari over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Guy V. Molinari, Esq. upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Police
Defense Foundation on May 6, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Guy V. Molinari, Esq.
