LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim May 17-23, 2015, as Emergency Medical Services Week in New York
State

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who give
outstanding service to the people of this Empire State and whose
extraordinary achievements save lives, so profoundly strengthen our
shared commitment to family and community life; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to memorialize Governor
Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 17-23, 2015, as Emergency Medical
Services Week in New York State, in conjunction with the observance of
National EMS Week; the theme of this year's celebration is "EMS Strong";
and
WHEREAS, In addition, this Legislative Body is proud to commend the
Catskill Regional Medical Center upon the occasion of hosting its 3rd
Annual County-wide celebration Awards Dinner on May 15, 2015 at the
Sullivan, recognizing all levels of emergency responders in Sullivan
County; and
WHEREAS, National Emergency Medical Services Week brings together
local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety and honor
and dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services
of medicine's "front line"; and
WHEREAS, Emergency Medical Services are an important part of the
continuum of healthcare; and
WHEREAS, The Emergency Medical Services system provides valuable
service to the community and is the vital link between the patient and
other healthcare providers; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 2.8 million calls are handled by Emergency
Medical Services providers each year in New York State; and
WHEREAS, More than 50,000 dedicated Emergency Medical Services provid-
ers, whether volunteer or career, respond 24 hours a day to call for
emergency care throughout the community; and
WHEREAS, Americans benefit daily from the knowledge and skills of
these highly trained individuals; and
WHEREAS, It is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplish-
ments of Emergency Medical Services providers by designating Emergency
Medical Services Week; and
WHEREAS, Injury prevention and the appropriate use of the Emergency
Medical Services system will help reduce national healthcare costs; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions and individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 17-23, 2015, as
Emergency Medical Services Week in New York State, in conjunction with
the observance of National EMS Week; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New
York, and the Catskill Regional Medical Center.
