LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 40th Annual Queens County St.
Patrick's Day Parade on March 7, 2015

WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time to celebrate the rich heritage of
the Irish people, unlimited in their contribution to this State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland and provides an opportunity for
people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 40th
Annual Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, March 7,
2015, to be held in Rockaway Beach, Queens, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade and Cultural
Committee is the organizer of this fine event, which is the second larg-
est parade of its kind in New York City; it attracts more than 50,000
people; and
WHEREAS, The Mass for peace and justice in Ireland, as well as the
Grand Marshal's Breakfast on the morning of the parade, has also been
planned by the Parade Committee members, who work diligently all year to
make these events successful and memorable; and
WHEREAS, The Grand Marshal for the 2015 Parade is Stephen J. Cassidy,
President of the Uniformed Firefighters' Association (UFA); and
WHEREAS, John T. Dunleavy has been chosen as the 2015 Honorary Grand
Marshal, and has served as chairman since 1993 of the New York City St.
Patrick's Day Parade; and
WHEREAS, The Deputy Grand Marshals of the 2015 Parade are: Donna
Moran, Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Inc. (L.A.O.H.); Dolores Orr,
Chair of Community Board No. 14; Michael Leahy, Rockaway Youth Sports
and Rockies Hockey; Frank Bagley, Knights of Columbus; Lieutenant
Patrick O'Malley, New York State Court Officers Association; Dr. Jona-
than Eckstein, St. John's Hospital; Sean Price, Shannon Gaels Sports
Club; Jimmy McGoorty, New York City Department of Sanitation; Brian
O'Connell, Principal at Scholar's Academy; Thomas Murphy, Curran's Meat
Market; and Bridie Mitchell, New York Irish Center and L.A.O.H.; and
WHEREAS, The St. Patrick's Day Parade celebrates the spirit, purity
and strength of the Irish culture and its fine traditions; and
WHEREAS, Through this heartfelt and compassionate expression, as well
as through their sustained commitment to the cultural vitality of their
Irish heritage, the Irish-American people of Queens County, and the
State of New York, bear witness to the deep faith and love of humanity
which is their rich tradition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 40th Annual Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade, to
be held on March 7, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade and Cultural
Committee, Grand Marshal Stephen J. Cassidy, and Honorary Grand Marshal
John T. Dunleavy.
