LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Chief Anthony Palombo upon the occasion
of his retirement after 32 years of distinguished service to the Town of
Tonawanda Police Department

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Chief Anthony Palombo upon the occasion of his retirement after 32 years
of distinguished service to the Town of Tonawanda Police Department; and
WHEREAS, This momentous occasion was celebrated with a surprise recog-
nition ceremony at a Town Board Meeting on Monday, February 23, 2015, in
the Council Chambers at the Municipal Building, Kenmore, New York; and
WHEREAS, Anthony Palombo began his illustrious law enforcement career
as a Patrol Officer with the Town of Tonawanda Police Department in
1983; he was promoted to Lieutenant in 1993, followed by Captain just
six years later, during which time he was in charge of the planning
bureau; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he was an original member of the Town of Tona-
wanda Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) which he served from 1987
to 2005; and
WHEREAS, A man of true integrity, Anthony Palombo continued to climb
the ranks to become Chief of Police for Operations in 2006; he was named
Chief of Police the following year, the esteemed position from which he
officially retired on February 20, 2015; and
WHEREAS, During his career, which spanned more than three decades,
Chief Anthony Palombo worked closely with the Kenmore-Tonawanda School
District and was instrumental in the establishment of the School
Resource Officer program (SRO); he also helped start the crisis inter-
vention team for people in mental and emotional distress; and
WHEREAS, A strong advocate for homeland and hometown security, Chief
Anthony Palombo has been active with the United States Department of
Homeland Security and secured several grants for the Town of Tonawanda,
including its state-of-the-art emergency operations center; and
WHEREAS, Chief Anthony Palombo was named Officer of the Year by the
Erie County Law Enforcement Association; he formerly served as the Pres-
ident of the Erie County Chiefs' Association, of which he was a member
for eight years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body that those dedi-
cated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preser-
vation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full
praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Chief Anthony Palombo upon the occasion of his retirement after 32
years of distinguished service to the Town of Tonawanda Police Depart-
ment, and to wish him continued success in all of his future endeavors;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chief Anthony Palombo.
