LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Town Historian John Percy upon the occa-
sion of his retirement after 41 years of distinguished service to the
Town of Tonawanda

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Town
Historian John Percy upon the occasion of his retirement after 41 years
of distinguished service to the Town of Tonawanda; and
WHEREAS, For more than four decades, John Percy rendered faithful,
conscientious, and valuable service as Historian for the Town of Tona-
wanda; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man brought to his position an abiding commit-
ment to his community, a background rich in experience, and a deep love
of history that began long before his appointment as Town Historian in
1973; and
WHEREAS, With a deep sense of civic pride, John Percy helped revive
the Tonawanda-Kenmore Historical Society, and has given historical pres-
entations at schools and service organizations across Western New York
about the area once known as "The Keystone of the Niagara Frontier"; and
WHEREAS, John Percy is the author of several books on the Tonawanda-
Kenmore area, and most recently published BUFFALO NIAGARA CONNECTIONS,
while teaching at Canisius College in 2007; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, John Percy highlighted local history
and delighted in sharing his vast knowledge with both young and old; he
was an invaluable resource for anyone with a desire to know more about
the history of the Town of Tonawanda and its surrounding environs; and
WHEREAS, During his outstanding tenure as Town Historian, John Percy
earned the admiration, esteem and affection of all of those whose lives
he touched; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor John Percy upon the occasion of his retirement as Town Historian
after 41 years of distinguished service to the Town of Tonawanda, and to
wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Percy.
