LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Farmingdale High School Science Bowl
team upon the occasion of capturing the 2015 Long Island Regional
Science Bowl Championship

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those young people who, by achieving outstanding success in
educational competition, have inspired and brought pride to our majestic
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the Farming-
dale High School Science Bowl team upon the occasion of capturing the
2015 Long Island Regional Science Bowl Championship; and
WHEREAS, Educational competitions which serve to better prepare our
students for their future are worthy of praise and support; and
WHEREAS, Sponsored by the United States Department of Energy's Office
of Science, the Science Bowl has grown into one of the most prestigious
science academic competitions in the country and challenges students to
excel in fields vital to America's future; and
WHEREAS, A team of five exceptional Farmingdale High School students
captured the Long Island Regional Science Bowl Championship on Saturday,
January 31, 2015, at Brookhaven National Lab in Upton, New York; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the team earned a trip to compete against teams
from 70 regional tournaments that have advanced to the national level in
Washington, D.C. in April; and
WHEREAS, The competition consisted of a fast-paced question-and-answer
tournament designed to test participants' knowledge in biology, chemis-
try, earth and space science, energy, mathematics and physics; and
WHEREAS, In an exciting finish, Farmingdale High School edged out
Great Neck South High School to win this esteemed competition; and
WHEREAS, The remarkable talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the effort of Coach Peter Macchia, a skilled and inspirational
tutor, respected for his ability to develop potential into excellence;
and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, these
scholars now stand honorably, with just pride in their accomplishments
and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appre-
ciating the caring counsel and support provided by their teachers,
coaches and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Farmingdale High School Science Bowl team; its members: Clar-
isse Baes, Jake Chammas, Ramin Chowdhury, Dan Laine and Suraj Murali-
dharan; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Farmingdale High School Science Bowl team and Coach Peter
Macchia.
