LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring outgoing Commander Daniel L. Flinn, SN
for his distinguished service to the District 3 United States Power
Squadrons
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals and organizations of remarkable integ-
rity and character whose endeavors have enhanced the complexion of the
majestic Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor outgoing
Commander Daniel L. Flinn, SN for his distinguished service to the
District 3 United States Power Squadrons, to be celebrated at its Annual
Change of Watch Ceremony on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Melville
Marriott Hotel, Melville, New York; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1914, the United States Power Squadrons,
"America's Boating Club", is the world's largest non-profit boating
organization dedicated to community service, boater education and boat-
ing safety; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, District 3 of the United States Power Squadrons,
serving Nassau and Suffolk Counties, as well as Brooklyn and Queens, has
a membership of more than 2,500 and promotes safe boating on local
waterways through public educational courses and advanced courses for
its members; and
WHEREAS, Daniel L. Flinn of Massapequa, New York, became Commander of
the United States Power Squadrons, District 3 on March 14, 2014; in this
capacity, he assumed the leadership of all 16 squadrons across Long
Island; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man has been active in many phases of Squadron
work for more than 15 years within the Jones Beach Power Squadron and at
the District level; and
WHEREAS, During this time, Commander Daniel L. Flinn has achieved the
grade of Senior Navigator, the highest squadron grade possible, indicat-
ing he has successfully passed all available advanced grade and elective
courses covering every aspect of navigation and seamanship; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the fraternal, friendship and family values that
the United States Power Squadrons represents, Commander Daniel L. Flinn
has, over the past year, been personally committed to increasing public
service efforts and improving the diversity of Squadron events; these
public service efforts include presenting safe boating classes, provid-
ing free vessel safety checks, and participating in environmental clean-
ups; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his steadfast dedication to the United States
Power Squadrons, Daniel L. Flinn recently retired after 44 years as a
Veterinarian and owner of the Jericho Animal Hospital; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife, Karen, who feels priv-
ileged to be a part of his life and rejoices in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, The District 3 United States Power Squadron's long and
sustained commitment to the preservation and enhancement of private
boating has clearly advanced the spirit of united purpose and shared
concern which is the unalterable manifestation of our American manner;
and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Daniel L. Flinn's distinguished
record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor outgoing Commander Daniel L. Flinn, SN for his distinguished
service to the District 3 United States Power Squadrons, and to wish him
continued success in all of his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to outgoing Commander Daniel L. Flinn.
