LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jenny Nielsen upon the occasion of her
selection as Deputy Marshal of the 22nd Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's
Day Parade on March 22, 2015

WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time for people of all nationalities and
generations to assemble and celebrate the rich culture and heritage of
the Irish people throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides opportunity for
people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Jenny Nielsen upon the occasion of her selection as Deputy Marshal of
the 22nd Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade to be held on Sunday,
March 22, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Brooklyn, Jenny Nielsen was one of five
siblings born to Irish parents John and Gertrude Burns; and
WHEREAS, Jenny Nielsen attended both the St. Thomas Aquinas School and
Manual Training High School in Brooklyn; while a student, she was an
energetic member of the girls basketball team which captured the Brook-
lyn Championship in 1951; and
WHEREAS, Jenny Nielsen was employed at New York Methodist Hospital in
Brooklyn, throughout her tenure, she held several different positions
such as a Nurse Technician in the Oncology Department, a member of the
Dentistry unit, and for many years, an Office Manager; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community, Jenny Nielsen is a proud member of
numerous organizations, including the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians
Division 22, American Legion No. 157 Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars
(VFW) Auxiliary No. 5195, American Legion Michael Rawley Post No. 1636
- Helping Hands, KOC Columbianette Council No. 60, Immaculate Heart Mary
Senior Club, and Al Ham Bra's No. 1 God's Special Children; and
WHEREAS, In addition, she volunteers her time to various church and
community services, and is an avid dancer, as well as a member of both
the American Pool Association and the Sunday Leftovers Bowling League;
she is also a participant in both the Eight Forty Kings Salon, and the
St. Patrick's Society; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Jimmy Nielsen, one
son, Sean (Patty), and two grandchildren, Alissa, and Mikey, all of whom
feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Deputy Marshal of the 22nd Annual Bay
Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade, Jenny Nielsen embodies the spirit and
the cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State
and Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jenny Nielsen upon the occasion of her selection as Deputy Marshal
of the 22nd Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 22, 2015;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jenny Nielsen.
