LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mick Dorgan upon the occasion of his
selection as Deputy Marshal of the 22nd Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's
Day Parade on March 22, 2015

WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time for people of all nationalities and
generations to assemble and celebrate the rich culture and heritage of
the Irish people throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides an opportunity
for people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mick
Dorgan upon the occasion of his selection as Deputy Marshal of the 22nd
Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade to be held on Sunday, March
22, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Mick Dorgan was born and raised in Cork City, Ireland, and
was later employed at the family construction business; he earned both
an Associate degree in Architecture and Industrial Electronics; and
WHEREAS, In 1985, Mick Dorgan re-located to New York City and found
work at various construction sites; four years later, he changed careers
and started bartending at the Glenore Bar in Bay Ridge, New York; and
WHEREAS, Mick Dorgan, along with two partners, opened their own bar,
The Wicked Monk in 1994, which he still owns today; throughout the
years, he held many fundraisers for various NYC and local Bay Ridge
organizations; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, Mick Dorgan joined the FDNY and was assigned to
Spanish Harlem; 10 years later, he retired due to a job related injury;
and
WHEREAS, Mick Dorgan is a vital member of several Irish organizations,
the FDNY Emerald Society, Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), and the
Brooklyn Shamrocks; he also helps coach his sons on their respective
sports teams; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Celeste, and his
children, Mike and Shane, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Deputy Marshal of the 22nd Annual Bay
Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade, Mick Dorgan embodies the spirit and the
cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State and
Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mick Dorgan upon the occasion of his selection as Deputy Marshal
of the 22nd Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 22, 2015;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mick Dorgan.
