LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Michael Butler upon the occasion of his
selection as Deputy Marshal of the 22nd Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's
Day Parade on March 22, 2015

WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time for people of all nationalities and
generations to assemble and celebrate the rich culture and heritage of
the Irish people throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides an opportunity
for people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Michael Butler upon the occasion of his selection as Deputy Marshal of
the 22nd Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade to be held on Sunday,
March 22, 2015; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Flatbush, Brooklyn, Michael Butler is
the youngest child of Richard and Marie Catherine (Gallagher) Butler;
and
WHEREAS, Michael Butler attended both St. Therese of Lisieux Grammar
School and Bishop Ford High School in Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduating, Michael Butler enlisted in the Army and
successfully completed boot camp in the winter of 1989; he then went on
to graduate from Airborne School in 1990; and
WHEREAS, Michael Butler served his country as a member of the 10th
Mountain Division Infantry Unit in the United States Army; in the winter
of 1991, he was deployed to Egypt during the First Gulf War; after
completing his active duty tenure, he joined the Army Reserve while he
awaited appointment to the New York City Police Department (NYPD); and
WHEREAS, In 1992, Michael Butler moved to Bay Ridge to be closer to
his family and friends; one year later, he joined the NYPD and was
assigned to the Mid-Town South Precinct; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his 20 year career, Officer Michael Butler was a
vital member of several different sectors within the NYPD, including the
Street Narcotics Unit (SNU), Manhattan North Narcotics Division, Coun-
ter-Terrorism Unit, and the Intelligence Division; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Officer Michael Butler was deployed overseas
with his United States Army Reserve unit, the 340th Military Police
Unit; he served for nine months in Kosovo, followed by a 15 month
deployment to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2003-2004, where
he earned the distinguished Bronze Star for his extraordinary service;
and
WHEREAS, In the summer of 2004, Platoon Sergeant Michael Butler
retired from the Army, and in December of 2013, he left the NYPD after
having achieved the rank of Detective 1st Grade; today, he is employed
in corporate security in New York City; and
WHEREAS, During his down time, Michael Butler can often be found help-
ing out at his wife Deidre's business, Paws Truly Pet Boutique; he is
also known as the "father" of "Seamus Labradoodle", the furry mascot of
the Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade; and
WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Deputy Marshal of the 22nd Annual Bay
Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade, Michael Butler embodies the spirit and
the cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State
and Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Michael Butler upon the occasion of his selection as Deputy

Marshal of the 22nd Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade on March
22, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael Butler.
