LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 65th Anniversary of Temple
Emanu-El of East Meadow on April 25, 2015, and paying tribute to this
year's honorees

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in commemorating the
65th Anniversary of Temple Emanu-El of East Meadow, to be celebrated
with a Gala Dinner Dance on Saturday, April 25, 2015, and paying tribute
to this year's honorees; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed institution is privileged to recognize
outstanding members of the community who have made significant contrib-
utions to the ministry of Temple Emanu-El of East Meadow and the commu-
nity-at-large; this year's distinguished honorees include: Max and
Hannah Schrier and Elliott and Harriet Solomon; and
WHEREAS, In 1950, at the house of mourning of Emanuel Frankfort, the
victim of a train wreck on the Long Island Railroad, was born the resol-
ution to form a congregation to serve the religious needs of the East
Meadow Jewish community; and
WHEREAS, Friends and neighbors who made up the mourner's minyan became
the founders of Temple Emanu-El, the first synagogue in the area; during
its humble beginnings, services and meetings were held in local homes,
the Fire House, and in the old building which once stood on its present
site; and
WHEREAS, In 1956, a new building was erected, and one year later the
beautiful sanctuary of Temple Emanu-El of East Meadow was built and
dedicated; and
WHEREAS, Today, Temple Emanu-El offers a wide variety of programs and
activities, including religious education, youth programs, and many
other committees and clubs which offer an array of opportunities for the
community; and
WHEREAS, Temple Emanu-El has been the historical cornerstone of the
East Meadow Jewish community for more than six decades; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Rabbi Emeritus Albert J.
Lowenberg since 1990, Temple Emanu-El stands on the threshold of tomor-
row, prepared to meet the challenges of the coming decades while retain-
ing that spiritual resolve of its founders; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 65th Anniversary of Temple Emanu-El of East Meadow on
April 25, 2015, and pay tribute to this year's honorees; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Temple Emanu-El of East Meadow and the aforementioned hono-
rees.
